I went to LBCC today to ask for an academic renewal. They said I didn’t qualify for one because I didn’t complete 24 units after the semesters I wanted to “get rid of.”

I’m screwed. The Scholars Program also rejected my application. Time to start thinking of back-up plans.

earlier today i was in your position, but needed to petition, so i feel your franticness, are you applying this year or next year?

Next year… a year goes by fast, so I want to be prepared.

I suppose ONE option is to stay at CC another year and boost my GPA. :-(

I read your thread earlier… I’m very glad it worked out for you. :-)

you gotta make it! where do you want to apply

& thank you very much!

My number one top choice is UCLA because they are the only UC with the unique Linguistics & CS single program. Next off would be Berkeley, UCSD, UCI, and CSULB.

Wait, which courses and what grades? Can you retake the courses at SMC? If you post the courses, I can help you find assist-certified replacements. Some may even be available to take online via other CCCs.

Oh man… TONS OF COURSES. I did a terrible, awful, horrible job at LBCC. I’ve retaken Japanese 1 at SMC in addition to having retaken all of my English and math courses. SMC doesn’t have business law and I will be retaking Intro to Comp Sci in the Fall.

(the above courses I just discussed were the ones I failed miserably with an F at LBCC)

So… how many courses left? With a D or F, I mean? Just Intro CS and Business Law? I think West LA college has business law.

Give me a sec, and I’ll log into LBCC’s online system thingy…

LBCC courses I failed:

Business Law: F
CBIS 6: F
Japanese 1: F
English 1: F

Japanese 1 and English 1, I retook at SMC and all the math classes I got W’s from at LBCC I have already retaken at SMC…

Edit your personal info out of that! Pleeeeeease. It’s the interwebz.

And yeah, Business Law I at WLAC. It’s the equivalent of your course AFAIK, but check assist.org to be sure.

I edited! CRAP, I totally did not even highlight that stuff! ***!

I’ll check WLAC. My problem is that I’ve already got a full load in the upcoming semesters, so I am HOPING that they teach these courses online or something… grrrr, I could kick myself.

They do!

Yeah, when you fill out your UC application, you can just flag an F or D course as one that you repeated. The application will count the repeated course with a C grade or better in your GPA instead of the F or D.

I got an F in Calc the first time around, retook it at a different school for an A. Only the A is counted in my UC GPA. But know that the course you’re retaking has to be the ASSIST-certified equivalent of the original. Also, this is not applicable for certain colleges at specific UCs. For example, the College of Engineering at Cal will average the two grades together, but L&S at Cal will take the better grade and discount the old grade.

Edit: The Cal CoE averaging two grades together thing was told to me by my Cal TAP counselor - I don’t actually know if it’s true or not. I googled it in an attempt to verify the statement, but I can’t find any info on it, so take that with a grain of salt.

Oh, I see… it actually turns out that SMC has a business law course… huh.

How can I tell if they’re assist-certified?

[ASSIST Prompt Page](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

Then click on UC Transferable Courses and select the course department.

You’re amazing. Thank you so much!
