So well, for my common application essay I wrote about my infinite adoration of
two of the most talented entertainers of the 21th century: Lady Gaga and Enrique Iglesias.

I believe that Lady Gaga epitomizes a strong woman. I have tied her feminism to my future career goals. I want to be a professional poker player, and her tips about maintaining a straight poker face during the game, have been invaluable. Furthermore, I made a little joke, about how my relation with college admissions is like a Bad Romance? Will THEY find this funny? I mean, they might not appreciate me exploiting the pure genius that is Gaga’s musical talents for my own gains, right? As additional information I have submitted a picture of myself dressed up as Lady Gaga in a frog suit. This shows my unique passion for fashion and being different.

So, for the second half of the essay, I wrote about my burning desire for Enrique Iglesias.
Can’t he just be my hero, can’t he kiss away my pain? I do expect admissions officers to be familiar with his little piece of elucidating musical brilliance, but I have also copy-pasted the lyrics under the essay - should be fine right? I mean, people quote poems ALL THE TIME? I have also written about how I am going to marry Enrique Iglesias when I grow up; he can run, he can hide, but he can’t escape my love.

So guys, do you think this brilliant essay will get me into HYPMS? My stats are a bit subpar, but I think this essay will revamp me. Be it for the exquisite culturedness it portrays.

PS. If you want to swap essays, drop me a PM!

Yeah, this is brilliant! It’s given me a great idea!! I’m going to show up for my next job interview dressed up as Elvis, white suit and all!! And then, when they say, “What can you do for our company?” I could say, “Well, I’m going to marry Madonna, so think how much publicity you’d get.”

They would think I am so creative that I’d be hired instantly. It’s brilliant!!

It will either go over really well, or go over really badly. It was a big risk, but I suppose you have nothing to lose, as you stated that your credentials are subpar. Your applying to multiple schools, so odds are someone will like it. I personally would not have written something like that, but that’s just me…

…methinks the OP is putting us on… I think she just wanted to say something outrageously immature and see who took it seriously. Read her location info.

gary7… ain’t that the truth. But it was clever in that, at first, I was taken in by it. Then, I was also fooled into thinking the subsequent posters took it seriously (but re-reading the other posts, I can see that they were not fooled). So then I felt even more foolish. So it worked - not once on me, but twice. What’s the saying “Fool me once, shame on… ?” I can’t remember. I’ll go ask George Bush.
