I didn't indicate sex on the PSAT

I identify as genderfluid, and feel uncomfortable with my sex defining who I am. While I would like to see more inclusive and lgbtq-friendly language on the test itself, my primary concern is with the indication of sex. I didn’t fill in either of the bubbles. Will this invalidate my test scores, and, if so, is there any possible work-around or way to contact the PSAT / National Merit Scholar board?

They won’t invalidate your score lol don’t worry. Nothing will happen, at worst your scores will be delayed a few days.

Was it a yes or no question?

Talk to the PSAT coordinator in your school.

Thanks! Phew.

Unless @Gatortristan works for the CollegeBoard, he/she is not the authority on what the CB will do.

Contact your school’s PSAT coordinator.

@GMTplus7 Not a collegeboard employee just telling her what i’ve heard on this site after hearing multiple situations similar to this, but you’re right contacting them is a good decision

They shouldn’t invalidate your scores on the basis of gender identity. (Just on the basis of "what a-hat would do this?) I saw that today and was like, “TF? Why no “other” option? What’s (genderfluid friend) going to bubble in? Why does it ask for sex and not gender, when gender is a more accurate way to describe a person in the way they prefer? FJDKLAGJPIOAGNB!” But if they do, shame on them, and here’s hoping they get a huge lawsuit.

@awesomepolygot Lol a lawsuit would be pointless since nearly every form includes the sex category. CB uses sex for statistics, scholarship opportunities, etc. they aren’t trying to be insensitive. Maybe in the future there will be a seperate “Gender” category with more diverse options.

When in doubt, you always speak to the experts.

That’s someone in guidance at your school, not anonymous kids on a forum.
