There I was thinking hostess was no big loss (I think twinkies are vile) and after wondering why my favorite sliced bread has been MIA I discover that is is made by Hostess . My husband and I are so bummed - Homepride butter top wheat really is the only sliced bread we like. We have tried others but don’t like the texture of some and the flavor of others and always come back to that one. (I like home made bread, but for sandwiches I like the packet stuff). SO bummed.

You are not alone. Maybe whoever buys the Hostess brands will revive Home Pride. Please post if you find an acceptable substitute, we’re still looking.

My H loves Home Pride too. But don’t worry yet - just read an article that there are over 100 interests in buying out the company/products to keep at least some of their products on the shelves!

I was wondering why it was so difficult to find! It is our favorite bread! :(

^^we were the same. Were puzzled that it was not on the shelves at Thanksgiving and since, then it suddenly crossed our minds to wonder if it was made by Hostess. We really had no idea. Might have bought a few loaves and stuck them in the freezer if we had realized.

My grocery store hasnt stocked it for years, possibly because they seem to have limited products that are made with partially hydrogenated oil & high fructose corn syrup.
They carry stuff like [Dave’s Killer bread instead.](Obsessions | Dave's Killer Bread)

But they still carry stuff like clove & blackjack chewing gum, so I expect someone will buy the recipe since it has loved by so many.

Same problem here with Nissan butter topped wheat. MIA. Maybe it’s the same bread with different wrapper.

Hostess owns these brands in the USBaker’s Inn

There is a Holsum, et al, outlet store down in the bayou that I frequent when I work down there. Great deals on bread, stuffing mix, hard to find items not found in the suburbs. Not only sad that this brand will be gone, but that this will be yet another business closed down with the failing economy. While the health conscious cheer on the end of a “junk food” brand, keep in mind that thousands of people will lose their jobs with the end of this brand, not just those employed in the factories, but those that work in the little outlet stores across the country. Also, those on limited incomes depend on these outlet stores. Where can you find a good loaf of bread for under a dollar? Yes, perhaps at a Wal-Mart, but many of these little towns do not have a Wal-Mart, and the closest ones are driving distance. Those on limited income often do not have the use of a vehicle. Okay. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

EK: thanks for that list. My mom always buys Merita bread and hasn’t been able to find it the last two weeks. Suggested to her that it might be fall out from the Hostess debacle.

Awww. No more Drake’s devil dogs. (Though I’m not sure if I’ve actually seen these for sale anywhere in a really long time anyway.)

I’ll miss the cupcakes, I always bought a package a couple of times a year ‘for the kids’

I have been low carbing it, otherwise I’d have been wondering where the Nature’s Pride bread went to.

hyperJulie: Drakes were definitely a NE brand. I’ve never seen them here in the South. I would buy a box of Devil Dogs & a box of Yodels when we visited NJ & put them in my travel bag.
