I didn't tell the college I applied to I have studied at another college. Interview help!

The college I applied to didn’t know I have studied at another college because it didn’t ask, so I didn’t tell. I actually don’t want them to know because of my grades. I don’t mind starting all over again. I am applying to the same major at another college. I need to make a print portfolio. I want to put the work I have done at the college into my portfolio because that shows what I know. Here’s the thing. Because the college I have applied to didn’t know I went to another college, I was thinking if I can tell the interviewer everything I have done including the work in college, I learned in high school and by myself. Will they somehow be able to find out I went to college?

I think the issue comes up if the interviewer asks a question like “when/where did you make this?” You are then put in a position where they find out you went to another college or you lie. Neither sounds ideal in your situation. If you really are proud of your college work you may have to just admit to what may have gone wrong at that college and explain what happened. Obviously, you must plan on doing differently at a new school or you wouldn’t be applying, so tell them that.

You need to tell them that you have studied elsewhere, and you need to send an official copy of your transcript. Period. Don’t decide for yourself what your old bad grades mean. Let them decide.

Discussing your portfolio with your interviewer may give you a good opportunity to find out the best way to approach the admissions office about your error. You need to get this straightened out as soon as you can. This is the sort of thing that can result in a rejected application, a cancelled admissions offer, expulsion from college, and even a retraction of an awarded degree.

The new college will discover that you had prior college study. They will either deny you, rescind your admission or expel you depending on when they discover it.

Even if you say nothing in the interview, the college will find out. The question is not if, it’s when. The National Student Clearinghouse will have that info available for the college. And when they find out, the resulting impact will be as @TomSrOfBoston describes.

Yes, the college likely will discover you earlier attended another college. Other CC threads make mention of the National Student Clearinghouse, which maintains records of college enrollments for all students. Dishonesty will be a valid reason for you to be dismissed or denied admission, no matter how the college might feel about your academic performance at the previous college. Should you have been evaluated as a transfer student instead of an incoming freshman?

You KNOW already that this is illegal. You asked explicitly last September. Please don’t risk getting in, studying for a semester, then losing it all when the college finds out, (including your money,) because you are committing a crime. Sorry, but at this point you get what you deserve.
