anyone??

I would recommend not calling the U. of Rochester a safety. It’s a tougher school to get into than many believe. While your ranking is wonderful, you probably need to bump up your SAT/ACT for the likes of Cornell and Chicago. What helps you with Rochester is where you are from.

bump!
Can anyone PLEASE match my colleges??
other thoughts would be very nice too

bumputtybumpbump

Well, first let me say this. Your residence in Oklahoma could be a potential plus for faraway schools. Colleges look for geographic diversity, in addition to ethnic, socioeconomic, etc.

And my advice to you is, stop beating yourself up for being a somehow “inadequate” Asian! You’re clearly very bright and involved. Not everyone tests in the stratosphere, though your SAT and ACT scores are more than solid, well above the national average (which is 21 for the ACT). If you can take them one more time and bump them up again, so much the better.

It looks like you want to attend a large university. Are you absolutely committed to that idea? If not, I suggest you look at Loren Pope’s book “Colleges that Change Lives.” One of my daughters, a very bright girl, is attending a school we discovered in that book, and they are giving her a substantial scholarship to do so. The advantages there, in addition to the merit aid, are small classes and a nurturing environment where the professors know and respect her. She’s not just a face in the crowd in a huge seminar setting.

Since finances are an issue, I suggest you at least look in that direction. Your class standing, ECs, and test scores are strong enough for you to receive very good merit money. For example, a school like Occidental in California (where Barak Obama began his college career) would undoubtedly love you. College of Wooster in Northern Ohio is considered one of the great “hidden gems” in American academia, and they also give a load of money. Etc.

As for the schools you listed, I have no doubt that you’d be accepted by at least some of them, but the financial aid packages might be questionable. Who knows? Just try. But while you’re at it, pick up that Loren Pope book and give it a read. Good luck, tsh!

Thanks Hindoo!!! Anyone else? Bumpabumpa

thats annoying that you say you dont deserve to be an asian. yor ****ing valedictorian and have a 4.0. Low self esteem is not flattering

dang pml16…I was talking about my test scores…and I think it’s a common sense to take a joke. But I’m sorry if that was offending.
Anyone??

OHHHHH and I prefer my ACT SCORES. For some reason my act scores went up without studying and SAT scores didn’t change much :(

bumpabumpa bumpatty bump

You already chanced yourself pretty well there ;D! I don’t see why you need this thread seems like you got it all worked out.

-School list:Vanderbilt/cornell - High reach
/Chicago/NU/Notre Dame - Lower reach
NYU/CMU/Umich - Low, low, low reach/ Match
U of Rochester/UIUC/Tex A&M - safety

WELL
i love ya because you’re asian, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself

i agree with the chances above me except for a couple of things:
i think UChicago is a high reach for you as well and Vandy and Corny; by USNews standards, Chicy is actually better than Corny and Vandy.
Also, I don’t really know if you should consider U Rochester a safety; it is really quite selective. But you could probs get in.

good luck honey!

Good luck
And stop with this ';‘bump bump bump’ It is annoying and does not help you to increase your replies. If you wanna your topic being on the top, just add some new details with a new post or sth .

no offense… but the connotation that asian evokes doesnt say (at least for me) “scores high on sats and acts” but “is hardworking and driven”

You’re valedictorian… >_>

Thanks to all of you!!! I feel better now. this one is to thank people not to bump :p

Just a note,
‘You can get into A&M by sneezing on the application and signing your name pretty much.’

One of their admissions officers told me that for real.

Nathaivel, is that fo shizzle my dizzle? Well I guess A&M is a garaunteed safetizzle

you need to bring those scores up.

rochester is not a safety. michigan and nyu and cmu are high matches/low reaches. cmu’s math scores are way up there, and you’re applying to michigan from out of state.

if you bring those scores up, they’ll probably end up being matches. but right now, a 1960 is a little risky even though you have an incredible ranking and gpa and good ec’s.
