<p>I hope this doesn’t make me sound stupid, but can someone explain what exactly they’re asking for?</p>

<p>I have no idea where or what Hampshire College is, but that question is written badly. I think what they meant to convey was “Please share a time that you helped to create or encourage community dialogue.”</p>
<p>They want you to discuss a situation where you got people to work together towards a common goal and/or communicate with one another. It could anything from starting a club or conducting a forum at school, to mediating a dispute between family members.</p>
<p>My S had some difficulty with this question, too. I am not entirely sure that his response actually answered the question, but he basically wrote about how he likes to engage in ‘meaningful conversation’ with people and used some examples of discussions he’s had with family members about a few controversial topics.</p>
