I Don't Know What I'm Doing Anymore

I’m NYU Class of 2016, and I honestly don’t know what the hell I’m supposed to be doing right now as far dorms, course registration, loans etc.

Is there any sort of list for all of this stuff?

Also, I want to go into the International Relations field. Is it possible to take courses requirements for that major my freshman year even before I apply for the major?

You have to take prerequisite courses during your freshmen year and then apply for the IR major (International Politics and either Economic I or Economics II) – you need a 3.65 GPA both overall and in all of the prerequisite classes in order to be considered for the IR major – entry is very competitive as only 25 to 30 students are admitted per year. After you apply and supposing you are accepted, you MUST maintain a minimum 3.65 GPA in order to remain in the IR program.

You should have applied for housing already, I believe. Assuming things are still the same, course registration takes place at Orientation. Loans should be discussed with the Office of Financial Aid.

If you’re in the Class of 2016, you should actually be receiving emails now as to what’s the next thing to do?
If you don’t read and get updates you might missed some deadline for all requirements, I’m a parent and if I depend on my child to do what’s supposed to be done the deadlines might be missed! I know that some parents will disagree as to why I do all these, but kids these days are just too busy with other things and they can’t be relied on with organisations for now, I’m sure when they get there, they will see the whole picture and learn to be on their own!
Does your parent help you with all these?

Hope this helps! :-)

No, my parents are no help at all. This is all new to them as well. Thank you for the help. :)

Housing forms are due on June 1st! Get them done!

Also, didn’t you get that timeline from
NYU as to when you’d get certain forms and when they are due? That helps a lot!

Yea, I just got that. And I’m almost done with housing. I just have to send the $1,000 and apply for special housing.

I also signed up for freshman seminar, but I did it late so there weren’t very many good choices. Also, apparently I’ll now be registering late for courses after other students since I filled out the survey late. But whatever, at least I’m kinda on track now, and I honestly am not stressing too much over late registration.

Don’t worry. Once you get there and term starts you’ll all be on equal ground.

Exactly what I thought. Thank you for the kindness everyone. It’s hard to find on this site. :)

I’m in the same boat as you! I was just a little embarrassed to say anything but I am so confused.

I submitted housing, got the health packet in the mail yesterday so I’ll have to get my meningitis vaccination this summer and all that. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do regarding course registration though… Everyone on here is talking about signing up for seminars (which I haven’t done yet) and I’m really really confused. Is it because I’m in Steinhardt and not CAS like everyone else? I haven’t signed up for a single class yet and now I’m panicking. i’m just sitting here like… “…what seminar registration…? what survey…?” O__________o
