OK…i’m extremely depressed…
i thought that i was the only one applying to Columbia early decision in my school…but few days ago, i found out that this insanely smart + class president + star of cross country team + his family is really really rich guy is applying to Columbia early, too…
My school’s in Long Island so Columbia’s never gonna accept more than 1 student from my school…
I really thougt that i had at least some chance if i apply early…
But no~~ that **** has to apply!!
Columbia’s never gona accept me unless people suddenly decide that i should be class president + all my teachers fall in love with me + my family wins a lotto -_-
I don’t know what to do…

what’s stopping Columbia from accepting more than one person from your school?

In school history, (according to my guidance counselor) Columbia never accepted more than 1 student from my school…except once (i think it was 2 years ago) when they accepted 2… i don’t think things are gonna change when i apply…it’s just so depressing…

hey, two years ago they accepted 2, so that’s a pretty good trend. I’d be more worried if that happened 20 years ago, but 2 years!

you’re not competing specifically against the person in your scool… you’re comepeting agaisnt everyone else. if you fit the criterion that they want, you’re in. there is no quota system or anything, so don’t worry.

wrong

jskim is right, the admissions game is really a competition between classmates…there is no “set” criteria but that’s just how it is. colleges like to diversify their pool - one way to do that is by picking people from different schools

but i mean, if you’re a strong applicant you can always pull through (you might break the trend)

Its just a freaking college! If you don’t get in here apply someplace else.
