I made a lot of mistakes when it came to the college hunt, I made decisions for the wrong reasons and I am now here at a small school. 1400 students. I really thought I would like it a lot, however I cannot stand it here. I feel jailed because I cannot go away and do anything because we are in the middle of no where. I have to stay on campus, and no one is ever doing anything on campus anyway. It forces me to study which is good, but I do not want to study all the time. I will be transferring next year to Eastern or Michigan, but I will stick it out for this year. Does anyone have suggestion on what I should do for this year to make it bearable?

If you want to be able to transfer then you will need a good GPa so maybe the studying is good.

In the meantime though my suggestion is to make the most out of the situation. Like maybe you can start going to more school events on campus such as plays or concerts. Maybe you and your friends can also plan events on campus.
That would give you more to do.

Have you tried to initiate something? Rather than complaining about how no one is ever doing anything on campus, perhaps, you could start an event with your dorm or just have a movie or game night with a couple of people. Are there any campus events you could go to? Do your RAs have any events (assuming you live on campus)? Are there clubs you could join (or even start!) as a way to meet knew people?

Perhaps, you could research anything there is to do around your area, as well. Even if you are in the “middle of nowhere,” perhaps you could go hiking or do some other outdoor activity with a group of people. If there’s a nearby town, perhaps you could get a group to split a cab or find a friend who has a car. Or you could invent your own fun on campus. My dorm and I once slid down a giant hill on trays–you never know what’s fun until you try =D
