Ok so I don’t meet the minimum requirement for Cal A which is 3.0 and I never meet the requirement. But CSU East Bay is putting Cal A in my financial aid package if though I don’t qualify for it. I only qualify for Cal B. I have called them but they always say “a technician will see what’s going on with youe financial package”. I have called about 3 times about this problem and they also tell me the same thing. What should I do? Should I keep being persistent or what? Note: that the financial aid package they are going to give me is absolutely trash my EFC is 00000. The cost to attend is about 26,000 and the financial package they are awarding me is about 16,000. My family doesn’t make make any where near the money to where my financial package should be looking like this.
The Calgrant for the Cal States has never covered the full cost of attendance…including room and board. It fully covers your tuition.
If this is an issue, you should have applied to CSUs that were within commuting distance of your home.
OR you could have done the community college route and transfer to a four year to complete your bachelors.
Your Calgrant B award is spot on.
I am thinking that this school is not affordable for you. First of all it is not clear how you would come up with the $10,000 extra even if you keep the award. Also, if you don’t maintain the required GPA you are very likely not going to get the $16,000 that they appear to have offered.
I have met people who got part way through university having taken on significant debt and then had to drop out because they couldn’t afford to finish. This can be bad. It is better to not start in the first place if this is likely to happen.
I tend to agree with @thumper1 that you need to consider other more affordable options, even if this means taking a gap year or starting at community college.
The other thing you need to remember is that your CalGrant funding is on a “timer”.
In other words, you have the equivalent of 4 years of funding. If you stretch it out to 5-7 years, using Cal grant funding, you will be paying the fees on your own.
You can do an affordable CC and not use the calgrant monies until you return to the CSU.
Honestly, the way it is looking right now I pretty sure it will be better if I start at a community college btw thanks for the advice
