i don't understand the prompt

In 400 words or less describe how your Jewish identity influences your role as a leader.

My role as a leader is being an assistant manager at a fast-food restaurant. What I am having a problem with is how does Jewish identity influence leadership. I started by talking about Moses and biblical leaders, but how does that relate to my leadership role. Is it asking, “How does being Jewish make you a leader?”? If it is, I am even having problems coming up with reasons on how being Jewish relates to being a leader.

Am I just overthinking this, is the prompt worded really terribly, or is there just something that I am not understanding?

I don’t think that that is the question, as if being Jewish requires one to be a leader.

I would reword the question something like this:

You might consider posting your question in the Parents Cafe, using the word Jewish in the thread title. There are a number of knowledgeable parents there who, I believe, would be willing to help.

hmmm, while i find the question a bit offensive (being jewish makes you a better leader? are they saying not being jewish may make you a worse leader?) I would not so much focus on what aspects of being jewish makes you a good leader so much as what have you learned from Judaism that makes you a more qualified leader.

For example, you may say that Moses’s story taught you the value of fighting tradition (defyin slavery, golden calf, ect.). The whole old testament is basically putting a higher purpose (ie. god) above yourself which you could relate to putting the concerns of the group over yours.

I think you may be reading the question a bit too literally

In a MOST general way, I would say this means: How has your upbringing helped in inculcating leadership qualities in you?

In this case, you have (presumably) had a jewish upbringing. Refer to your life as a result of a jewish upbringing, and how it influenced you in all your leadership roles.

Eg, any jewish ideals that helped you overcome an ethical dilemma as a leader. Pick a single story and branch out from there.
