I don't want to apply as a transfer!!!

OKay, I am currently enrolled in the IB program at my school, which is completely fine by me. Also, I am in this select group of students who all are one year ahead in every subject. That means, we take all our IB classes sophmore and Junior year, which at the end of we get our IB Diploma. Now, here is the problem. The final year, the students in the “Bridge Program” take around 4-6 college classes through James Madison University, which is not a community college, while the last 2-4 classes are reserved for High school classes, like AP Government, or other classes. I am wondering, since I am taking college classes and already will have the IB diploma, will I have to apply in as a transfer, because I don’t like that idea at all.

I doubt it. My son took college classes at a 4-yr public univ. over the course of his junior and senior years. He really just did it to get a better “high school education” than he could get at the high school. He liked the professors a lot and loved his classes there.

He still applied as a freshman when it was time to apply to a different college “for real”, and was accepted. He was not seeking to transfer credits from the first college, and his official status at the first college was “non-admitted student” which meant he took classes there but wasn’t aiming for graduation.

Lots of high school kids take college classes while still in high school. No one at a college admissions office will be suprised by it, although they may or may not accept the credits you earn there. At the most selective schools the chances are high they won’t.

My DD did dual enrollment her senior year, so all of her classes were at the community college. When it came time for college applications, they specifically said to apply as a freshman. She was treated as a freshman for orientation, housing and for the first quarter’s registration, but a sophomore for everything else.

Thanks you all. I am just worried that getting too advanced in my classes will actually hurt me.

this isn’t really anything about your topic, but one of my best friends is going to JMU this fall!!!

Cool, are you from VA?

I can’t imagine any reason why advanced studies would hurt you, rmadden.

It might be an option, depending on the school and its requirements. However, you’ll always be allowed to apply as a senior.

can I ask a question: why do some people take courses at some univ ??? What is the benefit from courses ??

^ Taking classes more that are “harder” than the ones at our school.

rmadden, no i’m not from virginia, i’m from upstate new york, but my friend’s aunt lives near JMU and once she visited, she fell in love :)
