I’m currently a Junior attending a NYC High School. I’ve never failed a class before and my lowest grade prior to Junior year was a 75, in Chemistry. So far, my chances of passing Pre-Calc is slim, and 99.9% i’ll end up failing the class. So if i do fail the class, will this hurt me in attending a good college? I’m going to take it again senior year by the way.

Thanks in advance!

but im not applying to ivy or anything. just decent state schools.

Yes, failing a class will hurt you even at public schools, which are becoming far more competitive due to the economy. Junior year also is the year that one’s grades count most, too. Colleges would be wary of accepting a student whose gpa appears to be dropping.

^Agree with Northstarmom. The only exception would be if you had some extenuating circumstances which are the reason WHY you failed the class. Such as:
*you got sick and missed a lot of instruction (important in math classes)
*you left school early/came late and missed that class a lot to care for a sick parent or similar situation

State universities ARE much harder to get into now than they were just a few years ago. Especially when the economy is bad and people who might normally attend private colleges might not be able to afford to go to them now and turn to good publics instead.

Can you retake the class over the summer or next year and what might that do to your GPA? Can you retake it via correspondance, like an online course in it? GOOD LUCK!

And failing pre-calc is… let’s just say that it should reflect on you worse than if you failed in, say, Physics C.

ok ok. no need to crush my dreams. lol. but it turns out i didnt fail Pre-Calculus since she passed me. so hah!! =)
