Hi, over junior year I had a health condition that led me to be out of schools for almost 2 months, I ended up with 3 Fs out of 9 classes (these remaining 4 were As). I was in the Ib programme and still am. surprisingly im on track to get the IB diploma because Im currently resisting the 2 that I failed and talking Math Hl online. If I explain it on my additional comments would I still have a chance at admission? I guess the better questions is will UC Berkeley care if I repeated so many courses due to my illness.
**resitting. I got 800 Physics 800 Chem and 800 Bio and 36 ACT. my junior year was simply bc of the illness/circumstances and not a matter of being academically capable.
UC’s only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation so it will be difficult to make up 50% of your GPA. UCB is a Reach school even with stellar stats so you need to calculate your UC GPA first to see how you compare. Your health issues can be addressed in your personal insight essays with further elaboration if needed in the additional comments section. Hopefully you are healthy now.
When you apply this Fall you will indicate that you are retaking the classes. UCB will not penalize you for retaking the classes but it will impact your chances if the repeat grades will not be available by application time.

Above all, do not fixate only on UCB. There are many other schools out there for you and there is other pathways to reach your goal.
Best of luck.
