I feel like I haven't done anything meaningful...

When given the option, I try to dodge “significant experience” essays, or “what have you done” essays because, and this might be a terrible thing, I haven’t lead a very extraordinary life.

I’m working on the essays for Hampshire college, and have to answer the following question:

“Hampshire’s motto, Non Satis Scire (To Know is Not Enough), urges students to use their knowledge and abilities to make a difference in the world. Please describe an issue in the world or your own community of importance to you, and explain why it should be addressed. What have you done to take action or promote dialogue?”

Clearly, nobody on CC knows what I’ve done with my life, but I guess I’m just looking for inspiration. Is anyone else writing this essay? If so, what about? Has anybody else been made to feel inadequate by college essays?

I hate bumping old topics, but I have to say, I know exactly how you feel. I cannot say anything amazing has happened in my life, or at least anything that would be relevant to a college essay. I just try really hard because I know that if I do not I will not get the grades and learning experience that I desire… What’s there to right about? How I look left and right and notice, “Hey, anybody can do that”?
