Hey, so I’m a high school sophomore, and I need advice to help me develop that “big spike” to increase my chances into getting in the Ivy League, and other top universities. I want to become a forensic anthropologist, and there are no extracurriculars or competitions for forensics in my entire province. I was wondering what I could do instead? I’ve just started a forensics club at my school and I now I don’t know what else to do to keep developing that spike. Help?
Stop trying to develop a spike. At this point, you either have one or you don’t. What you need to do is be you.
There is not expectation from most colleges that any EC needs to align with you potential major/career plans.
FYI, while some colleges like to assemble a well-rounded class, that does not mean a class of well-rounded kids. Nor does it mean a class of pointy kids. They usually like to have a mix.
I know a top forensic scientist. She didn’t do a thing related to f.s. in high school or college.
She didn’t go to the Ivy League.
She went to a state school and got good grades. She got a job at a state crime lab. She got a master’s. She got a job at the FBI. Then she got a PhD. Now she’s internationally known in her field.
One of the top forensic anthro programs is at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, home of the Body Farm. Not remotely “ivy”. But certainly a place to keep on your radar scope.
I’ve heard many admissions officers say that they look to create a well balanced class. That class will include some well-rounded individuals as well as some individuals with particular talents/interests (ex. spike). You are fine either way.
I know, but I truly do love forensics, that’s why I’m asking.
Okay I will
Do you happen to be talking about Temperance Brennan?
