I already went to orientation and signed up for classes about a week ago but I realized that I have M408C 8-9am, and AMS 315D right after at 9-10am. I have heard that there’s 10 minutes between class but I’m unsure about if this scheduling is appropriate because the two classes may be too far away for me. I looked at the campus map and the classes seem to be far away but I am unable to determine how long that will actually take to walk.

M408C is in the RLM building and AMS 315D is in the UTC building. I am also waitlisted for Sociology which is also at 9-10am on that day which is in the CMA building for that time slot. I was going to drop the Sociology class a few minutes ago but stopped when I noticed that my Anthropology class and Calc class are 10 mins off from each other (I should have noticed this when I registered). The Sociology class is also 10 mins off from my Calc class but is in a closer building. I would prefer to stay in Anthropology and drop Sociology if possible. Is this schedule going to work for me with Anthropology and Calc so close to each other?

It takes a few days but, you will learn to walk faster and take short cuts so you can make it to class on time. Plus, many students, even on exam days, arrive to class late and are still able to settle down and finish exams so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

However, your schedule looks tough for a Freshman. If I’m not mistaken, you’re taking 18 hours, which IMO is a bit too much for a first year student.

He’s taking 16 hours, which is normal. And you’re just going to have to hustle to your class. You shouldn’t let that situation be your deciding factor on what class you take.

My two cents on this issue:

RLM and UTC are very far away. I wouldn’t have been able to make it from one building to the other in 10 min on foot. That said, for a big lecture class like M 408C you might be able to get away with leaving class a few minutes early if needed. Just make sure to sit next to the isle and close to the door.

If you NOT near the front of your Sociology waitlist, at this point I would stay in the AMS class and stay on the SOC waitlist. Stall for a bit; try to wait until you get to UT so you can see for yourself if you can make the RLM to UTC walk.

Solution: walk fast.

Thanks for the help guys! I guess I’ll see if I get into Sociology. I’m 6th on the waitlist. I can possibly power walk to anthropology in time but if class gets out late in calc then I’m done. However, it’s the “discussion” portion of calc that I have before anthropology, not the other part. Maybe I can get out of that early.
