I got 1 C; Am I in trouble?

The title says it all. I’m a pretty good student, with a ~3.5 GPA. 2080 (760 Math, 670 Critical Reading, 650 Writing) on the SAT, and I am really dedicated to my ECs such as Cross Country and Track; Also I’m pretty good at writing college essays!

My question here though is whether or not 1 C will stop me from getting accepted. I’ve heard rumors that actual admissions officers have said that if they see a C, they just reject the student; have any of you gotten in to College Park w/ a C on your report card? I ended up having an absolutely terrible teacher from Precalculus GT my Junior year and it really hurt my grade; will this ruin my chances of getting in?

Thanks for the help!

I think you will be fine. You might want to get you GPA a little higher just to make sure.

College Park has become more selective. I don’t think you need to worry about 1 C; however, I think it would be to your benefit to try to increase your GPA.

According to the college toolkit website: 65% of accepted Freshmen had a GPA between 3.75 and 4.0. Only 17% had 3.5-3.74 and 11% were admitted with 3.25 -3.49.

That being said, your Math SAT is higher than average for UMCP and your CR is in the higher group.

I had a couple of Cs on my transcript from my freshman and sophomore year and I got into UMD no problem (Harder schools too). Might be why I didn’t make honors but you should be just fine as far as just getting in. Just make sure you project well-roundedness.

I ended up getting a 3.56 this year, so I’m gonna end up my first 3 years with a 3.54 on average! Any more thoughts on that one C?

I had a C each year until senior year and I got in fine. I don’t think having a C will matter that much.
