Okay so I just took my very first SAT. I didn’t know what to expect. I received my scores and got a 1130. I felt bad when I realized a 1130 was very bad…so I’m planning on studying extremely hard the next time I take it. But how much do people usually gain after studying? I’m looking forward to gain at least a 1500 which is the average score. I’m pretty worried about colleges and my future.
My background info:
Grade: High school student(Junior)
GPA: 3.4 or 3.5
Activities: Volunteers every week(3h/week)
Current SRI Reading score: Over 1100
Goals: Going to a 4-year university
I feel like my goals will be corrupted by my SAT scores. I know I have a decent GPA but my test scores…I might plan on going to community college first before transferring to a 4-year university. Do you guys think I will have a decent future or job?
It’s alright! Don’t lose hope. From the time I took my very first SAT practice test to the final score, I was able to raise it by 600 points so it’s totally doable. From your background, it looks like you’re a pretty good students. What you need to do is divide up you work by sections (Math, Vocab, Passages, Grammar, Essay). Dividing it up like this may seem to be more work but will be worth it in the end. Make sure you work on each section individually.
Math: practice, practice, practice! The math is pretty simple and it will be pretty easy once you learn the tricks.
Vocab: Direct hits. Get both of the books and study them multiple times. Most of the words in them appear on the SAT in some way.
Passages: Like math, just practice and use POE (process of elimination). There should be 2 choices you can cancel off right away so just choose between the remaining 3.
Grammar: Use Erica’s grammar guide. This is literally gold. Also, type up your own version of the important rules for you for quick reference.
Essay: Just keep writing! As long as you get a classic (but coherent) 2 pages 5 paragraph essay, you shouldn’t get anything less than an 8.
Good luck and PM me if you have any questions!
