I got a 12 with only one "example"

<p>Just wanted to let you all know that it can be done.</p>

<p>I wrote about Thomas Jefferon’s foreign policy (if you’ll remember the question was about consistency of opinion) about 1/3 of the way onto the third page. </p>

<p>It wasn’t particularly long, and I didn’t cram my essay full of extraneous examples.</p>

<p>So for those who think you need at least 3+ literary/historical references, you really don’t.</p>

<p>I’m a horrible writer so I try doing 3 examples to make up for my non-essay skills… and it raised me from 3 and 4’s on an essay to 5’s or 6’s.</p>

<p>But one of my friends is like you. She can write enough to just fill in the first page and get a 12.</p>

<p>That makes sense. I write all the time so maybe I’m just used to elaborating and analyzing a particular subject. But I think that in some cases, worrying about not having enough examples can actually lower your score because it has the potential to make your essay look like a laundry list.</p>

<p>Yep. Those who have good writing skills don’t really need quantity since their quality will be better…</p>

<p>But quantity definitely helps if you are a poor writer.</p>

<p>I get the ACT confused with the SAT.</p>

<p>If the ACT was the 4-page one, then I went 1/3 of the way onto the 3rd page, and in that case I have no idea how long my SAT essay was (it’s not available yet).</p>

<p>I’ve always believed that an essay score isn’t about how many examples you use, it’s about the skill of writing you display, as examlpe essays have shown me.</p>

<p>My son says he got a 12 by simply writing a really LONG essay. How dumb is that???</p>

<p>I used the same example as you have; I also mixed in Darwin’s idea of the “survival of fittest”, as odd as that may seem.</p>

<p>yeah, I agree that long essays aren’t what give you a 12. I filled up both pages (not just for the sake of filling them) and got a 9.</p>
