hello, i am a freshman in high school. I struggled and got a 2.83 gpa. I recalibrated and now am ending of with roughly a 3.83 of this semester… so in total my average is 3.33 for the year… Will this first semester hurt my chances in the average college (excluding UCs, and other schools that don’t look at freshman year at all)… It was a rough transition. Thanks
This totally depends on what you are categorizing as “average” colleges.
UC’s don’t look at freshman year classes if I remember correctly. Try to keep the GPA high from 10th to 11th.

Same with universities in Canada. However, for pretty nearly any university your first semester freshman year of high school is going to be way less important than your next three years. Work hard, stay ahead in your homework and reading, always pay attention in class, seek out help when you need it, keep an open mind when it comes time to apply to universities, and you should be fine.
One trick that I didn’t learn until graduate school: If you try to do your homework the day that it is assigned, or at least well before it is due, then you learn a little bit more. This means that you are slightly better prepared for your next class, which means that you pick up just a little bit more in your next class. Over time this can be very helpful.
Nice job on bringing your GPA up!! You’ll be fine as long as you explain why you got the grades you did first semester in the extra info part of your common app. Make sure your standardized test scores are high as well and that you continue getting 3.8ish / 4.0 gpas every semester!!!
