Thanks! Also, if I want to appeal to get grants do I appeal to NYU or NYU’s CAS. Thanks!!!

20k CAS Scholarship should be renewable annually, IF your financial situation does not change significantly and if you maintain acceptable academic status (the scholarship is both merit and need based).

Appeal through NYU Financial Aid Office. GL. Let us know what happens.

I’m concerned about the possible change in financial situation for us and the resultant change in the scholarship in future years. None of the other scholarships my S qualified for at other schools have that as a factor. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), it looks like we’re going to make more $$ this year - I’m a consultant so our EFC can vary a lot from year to year. Seems like a loophole in favor of the school.

I think your concern is legitimate, with your changing income. Sometimes NYU has very rigid policy written in, but the reality may be more flexible. However, how can you make a decision based on that? Look at the links I provided and then I recommend you to call the FA Office and ask them the question and see what they say. It would be good for you to let us know what they say to you directly. GL!

1) Take a look at this link for what NYU Financial Aid Office states about scholarships:

<a href=“Scholarships and Grants”>Scholarships and Grants;

2) Then a previous discussion (in 2008) reflects confusion about the basis of the scholarships, read Post #3 in particular:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/616581-nyu-scholarships.html

Since NYU does not meet 100% of need, there is some wiggle room for their award. My income has changed by several thousand dollars up and down and the award has not change in either direction. When it went down they did not increase the award and by the same token, when it went up, they did not decrease it. Now if you mean a huge increase in income, then I am not so sure.

I just received my daughter’s financial aid packet from NYU and were terribly surprised. They are offering her $21000 but the cost is $54,0282 just including tuition & room and board (no other college related expenses e.g health-insurance, books). To add insult to injury they offered her loans that amount roughly to $8000 and offered her a Federal PLUS loan of $26000! My gross adjusted income in 2010 was $18,000. Is there anyway to appeal this decision? and if so who should I contact… Thank you for any help!!!

You can try to appeal, but most likely will only get 1-2000 more. BTW, by NYU standards, your D received an excellent package. NYU is nortorius for bad FA and has never said they meet 100% of need.
