i got an 1140 on the sat's without studying and i'm now gonna take a class

is it realistic to expect to raise my score up to the 1300 area? i’m taking a class with princeton review.

edit: the score i said only includes math and verbal. i heard the writing section doesn’t really count.

I’m more familiar with the Kaplan class, but I say yes.

yes def espec since pr promises a 200 pointe increase

o wow i didn’t even know about the promise… good news

How long do you have to study? If you’re a freshman/middle schooler, etc., you might even be able to raise it higher.

Study hard…and anyone can get to the lower 700 levels…trust me…

I took the PR class and can attest that it is whatever you make it out to be. If you do all the homework and actually challenge your teacher you can do really well. I went up around 80 points from my first to last diagnostic test, not exactly 200, but I will say it provided me the motivation to build on what I learned there and work harder on my own.

…as for the 200 pt promise, my first sat was exactly 200 points higher than my first pr diagnostic, however in as modest of a way as possible, i’d like to think i had more to do with that than my teacher.

bennyblanco~ YES! Princeton Review is the best! both my kids took the comprehensive summer program, with great results! we think the best prep out there! be careful…writing does count. one of my kids was a “guinea pig” for the first admin of the March, '05 new SATs…altho she got a 760 on writing and they all said "we don’t have enough statistics to know how to interpret it (???) ", IT WAS SEEN! this is what our guidance dept. supports…regardless of what combo is currently used for admission, the writing is seen, and sways admission counselors regardless. good luck!

me again, sorry. just read some of your other posts…yes, you need to do all the “homework”, but it does work! my daughter’s PR teachers were incredibly supportive, giving time after classes, email talk, etc. my secong child gained MORE than 200 points! my first child (ivy-type) said the best thing PR gave her was CONFIDENCE for the big day!

PR is great for people like you who are scoring in this M+V range. Once you get past 1400, however, PR will not help your score significantly (it’s hard to achieve another 100 point increase with PR if you are already scoring 1400).
