I got deferred EA--Chances for RD?

I’m really worried–SFS at GU is pretty much my dream but I’m worried I don’t have the credentials–please tell me what you think, especially since I was deferred EA (wow, really wishing I hadn’t applied EA).
I’ve heard that my chances of being accepted go down to 10% now, but I’m worried I’m not rising to the top.

I’m a white female in Georgia suburbs
I’m in the International Baccalaureate Program at one of the top IB high schools in the nation (in Diploma Programme)

One other girl from my school is applying, but she’s applying to College for biology

SAT:
cr: 740

writing: 700

SAT II:
French: 720
Biology: 710
Lit: 680

I also sent in my art portfolio because IB makes us choose a concentration, and my concentration is on the modern-day impact of imperialism on the Middle East (which is relevant to going to SFS, and I’m currently teaching myself MS Arabic)

Any feedback, good or bad, would be MUCH appreciated, GTown + SFS is really really reallllly my top choice!

I was also deferred, but from the College
I have heard that our chancces have now gone done to 15%
but I don’t think that means that they won’t accept you because you applied early
i’m a little mad because now another girl from my school is applying to GU, and even though I have better stats etc., she technically has a better chance
I can’t really help you because I really don’t know how it works, but GOOD LUCK i hope everything works out.

I think the reason why we all have “technically” lower chances is that all the applications that weren’t really up to par at all the first time around get another look too just like all of us that were qualified from the get-go. Or at least that would make sense to me.

How’s teaching yourself Arabic going, voguepanda? I’m actually doing the same thing, but its kinda tough just having a text book and some cassettes and not having soemone more experienced guiding me along concerning pronunciations and such.

Arabic is hard. Especially since its so completely unlike any language I know and the alphabet is so different. I’m definately feeling the same way about pronunciation–that’s one of the hardest parts; I’m glad I love learning languages, otherwise I’d have given up already!

Yeah don’t worry about applying EA and being deferred. The fact that you were deferred EA doesn’t in fact lower your chances of being accepted normal decision–bc statistically speaking they are two independent events, your application will be evaluated, again, with all the regular decision candidates. If you were going to get in regular decision then you will get in regular decision after being deferred, meaning that the fact that you were deferred will not count against you or anything of that nature. The reason the acceptance rate for EA deferrees is lower is that they defer everyone, including students they have no intention of accepting, so alot of those candidates are denied, meaning a lower acceptance rate. In your case, you don’t appear to be a candidate that they think has no chance for normal decision. I’m sure you’ll be fine. No worries.

Exactly. There is no penalty for being deferred. They look at your app again, and don’t consider the fact that you were deferred earlier.

OK, thanks, guys, the deferral letter was confusing.
So what do you think my chances for being accepted RD are?

I’d say solid. I was surprised u were deferred ea to be honest. best of luck.

I cannot imagine why you were deferred in the first place. Is georgetown one of those schools that relies heavily on SAT scores over other aspects of the application?
