I got my bachelor degree with 2.9 GPA. Do I have a chance to get admitted to U.S college?

I have been working as an English teacher as second language in Mongolia for over 7 years. Now I want to change my life by studying in U.S for different major. Main problem is most of scholarships for international graduate students require at least GPA 3.0 but mine is 2.9GPA. Is there any chance for me apply with GPA 2.9?

Let’s cut to the chase…

Is money going to be an issue? You will receive absolutely no financial aid as a second degree student.

You can probably get accepted as a second degree student but you will have to pay the full price to attend (and demonstrate that you have the $$ to pay in order get your visa).

Yes you have a chance of being admitted somewhere but you will be full pay.

In addition, you will not receive in-state tuition at any public university, if you have not been living and working in that state for at least a year

Regardless of your GPA, most scholarships will not fund a 2nd bachelor’s.

You can apply to any school, but there are no guarantees that you will get in.

Grad schools are competitive. Worse, many grad schools will not fund your studies unless you are in a major with large research dollars.

Since your background experience appears to be English, and you are an international student, I don’t think there is a demand for English majors, from non US universities, who are non-native speakers.

Plan on paying full fees.

Do you want to apply for grad school or for a bachelor’s degree?
(Do you have a 4-year degree or a 3-year degree equivalent to a 4-year degree, or do you have a 2-year degree?)
If you have a 4-year degree, you’re not eligible for financial aid anywhere and may not be able to get a degree at many universities that don’t accept international “second bachelor” applicants.
If you have a 2-year degree you’d be a transfer student so you might be eligible for minimal financial aid at a handful of colleges but much less than as a freshman.
A possibility would be to attend a community college in a state where 1° international rates for community college are low and 2° international rates for 4-year universities are low.
For instance, you could attend Community College in Bakersfield then CSU Bakersfield but it’s going to cost you 15-20K for the first two years and 30-40K for the last two years… Another possibility could be the TC3 to SUNY program in NYS, or TCC2FSU program in Florida.

Start at the EducationUSA office in Ulaanbaatar. The counselors there might be able to give you ideas.

Graduate school admissions will depend a lot on what you want to study, and how much you can pay. Most places will require you to have your academic records evaluated by WES.org
