<p>Call your oral surgeon’s office and tell them what is going on. When my daughter had her teeth out she had increasingly severe pain due to some kind of splintering of the bone which can happen in some cases. There are a few other things that can cause pain and a slower recovery, but no one on the Internet can tell you anything for sure. You need to talk to the nurse at the office and go in to be checked. Six days is too many to still be having severe pain. Don’t wait to call. If there is any kind of infection, you want it treated right away.</p>

<p>Six days, yes? You could still have some pain but after day 2 or so there should be a gradual decline of pain. You need to call. Does the pain seem to start under your ear and and go down your neck?</p>
<p>My D had hers out a few months ago. From what we learned, it sounds like a dry socket problem. You will need to get follow up with the oral surgeon for some medication. It is totally manageable, so you will be fine as long as you follow up. Our literature said it happens 5 - 10% of the time.</p>
<p>As everyone else has said, you shouldn’t have severe pain 6 days later. I agree with mnmomof2 that it sounds like a dry socket. Call your oral surgeon…he/she is used to dealing with these kinds of problems.</p>
<p>I wound up with both a dry socket and an infected gum.</p>
<p>The infected gum was the second most painful thing I have ever experienced, surpassed only by a kidney stone.</p>
<p>The dry socket wasn’t all that painful for me.</p>
<p>S1 accidentally broke the stitches (swishing /spitting out blood) in one of the extraction sites the afternoon after having his wisdom teeth removed. The other 3 places healed quickly but that one took much longer and was more painful.
Contact your oral surgeon to rule out dry socket.</p>
<p>I had two wisdom teeth out two months ago, non-surgically, and there are still holes in my gums where they were. Should those have closed up by now? I’ve been meaning to call the dentist but he’s just going to have me come in to check it either way and I would really rather not unless this is actually unusual.</p>
<p>Son was fine the next day when he had his out. I had two done in a hospital and it was bad the first two days but got better quickly after that. Six days sounds like something that should be looked at. It might be an infection.</p>
<p>DD did not have severe pain, but she was surprised by headaches and painful jaw for up to a month later. Every one told her it was no big deal and the discomfort had to be dealt with on a high level sport tour-playing for a US team, it was quite disconcerting. It hurt much more and much longer than she had expected or been lead to believe</p>
