I 100% concur with the above advice - try local places for jobs! Walk into small stores, ice cream shops, family restaurants, etc and ask if they are hiring for part time help.
Other ideas would be too look at summer youth programs that might hire teens - here we have summer programs through community education or the school district, and they hire 16+ for teacher assistants - both for summer “child care” type programs for younger kids, and for more specialized camps/classes.
My 23 year old has a 40 hour a week clinical here at home this summer (unpaid, 3 days a week), and as soon as she gets here she will be pounding the payment trying to find a bartending job for her days off.
If you’ve taken/are taking AP Stats, AP Calc, AP Econ, AP Spanish/FL, AP Physics, you could add it under your GPA, simply to convey “serious, hard-working”. (This would make sense from QB prep scholars but that’s way at the bottom and I’m not sure there’s a way to put it elsewhere). Add “Dual Enrollment” or "Concurrent Enrollment’ next to the CC.
Definitely go to your local businesses in person, especially restaurants plus ice cream shops, movie theaters, amusement parks/fairs, plus any place that may have a desk job (welcome desk in particular). If they ask if you can start part-time this weekend would you be available? Are you hoping for 25hours (“but flexible”?)
No luck yet, but to be fair I’m not trying super hard lol. Just applying to maybe 2 a week, I’m studying for SAT/ACT and finals right now. Once all of that is over I’ll go full in on job hunting
got a call back and i’m going to be working at starbucks! they pay pretty well so I’m happy, I did end up getting into a stanford program and girls who code so it wasn’t the end of the world 2 months ago lol
Good for you! And fwiw, I always value work experience, especially anything that involves working with the public, very highly when reviewing resumes. So much real world exposure and learning.
It very rarely is. I hope you remember that going forward when you face setbacks. There’s usually a solution if you look for it hard enough and don’t give up. Congratulations!
