I got screwed on my SAT II

I became in the middle of my exams today, and thus, expect my two SAT subject scores to be substantially lower (at least -100; so I’d expect that they’re both in the 620-660 range). 1) given the low score, would it be better to cancel them or leave them as is? Either way, I’ll explain what happened and that I will definitely take them again in Dec. 2) If I cancel, I won’t even have a chance, will I? Then, would it better to apply regular instead of early? Thanks

Don’t expect them to bend the rules for you especially when you could just apply regular admission, which is what I recommend you do.

blend the rules?

Did you “become” in the metaphysical sense or did you omit something like sick/woozy/queezy/uneasy/nervous/anything else that would hinder your testing experience?

Anyway, UChicago doesn’t require SAT Subject Tests so suffice it to say that they place very little if any emphasis on them. You should be fine whether or not your cancel them. If you aren’t applying anywhere else early, go ahead and cancel them and plan on taking them again in December so you can get the scores in for RD. If you are applying elsewhere early, understand that those scores are not the worst ever and will certainly not disqualify you from admission to even the most selective schools, especially if you have other qualities that outweigh this slight weak point. If test scores, particularly SAT II scores, mean so much to a school, they’ll likely defer you which gives you added opportunity to submit new, better scores.

D

P.S. I’m pretty much in the same boat you’re in. Only one of my 3 subject tests scores are over 700 but I have above-average well, everything else so I’m fairly confident about my chances (as you should be assuming you’re a fairly competitive applicant to begin with; and since you’re applying to UChicago early you probably are). Best of luck to you in the whole process and I wish you a stress-free year :)

P.P.S. Only cancel your scores if you are close to 100% sure that you scored poorly (even though 620-660 is far from poor imo).

sick as in I had bouts of diarrhea

They don’t even look at the SAT II scores.

SAT-II scores never make your admissions folder. Hope you are feeling better!

SAT II scores mean nothing. I fell into a dilemma where I took the October SAT II’s, and sent them to the college before October scores were released, assuming October scores would be sent too. They weren’t. I asked an admissions officer if I should resend them with the updated SAT II scores, I was told:

SAT IIs are not required for application to the U of C. You don’t have to go to extra lengths to send those scores to us.

So in other words I wouldn’t worry about it. Take something more productive in December, or take nothing at all. And if your done with everything else, then apply early.
