I hate my life. Any chance for survival?

So, I have wanted to apply to Columbia University since I was nine. Judging by the ways things have turned out, I doubt I will be accepted. But, to keep the hope alive I want a brutal and realistic viewpoint of if I am really even close to elligible so hopefully I can get some feedback from the very knowledgeable people here at College Confidential. By the way, I just finished my junior year and wish to apply early decision in the fall of 2009. So here are the (horrible) credentials:

SAT- 690 V, 740 M, 800 W (2230 total)
ACT- 32 composite
SAT II- 710 Chemistry, 710 MATH II

APS- World History 4, Physics B 3, English Lang 5, US History 5

Rank: 3 out of 196

Extracurriculars:
Co- editor in chief of school newspaper
President of National Honor Society
President of DECA
President of SADD
President of Amnesty Int’l
Treasurer of Spanish Honor Society
Varsity Tennis- 9,10,11 grade
Attending Garcia Summer Scholars Program
Accepted to Cold Spring Harbor Partners for the Future Program

In terms of awards, I honestly don’t have much. But, I was an International DECA Competition participant and won honorable mention in the Brookhaven Science essay competition. No National Merit or anything :(

So what are my chances?

^decent shot, your scores and rank (I’m assuming GPA also) are high and you have leadership positions, if you apply ED, I can see you getting accepted, like 50%. if you apply RD it’s more like 15-20%.

Wow, screw you. that is not horrible at all. Apply.

wow
i hate people like you
skywalker is right, you have good stuff so just apply

Ethnicity?

incidently, people who hate their lives tend to more suicidal than the average person. therefore I think your chances of survival are quite slim.

in all seriousness.
-SAT I CR could be higher but it’s not a disaster by any means.
-SAT IIs should be better but it’s acceptable.
-AP physics is a disappointment
-class rank is good.
-tell us about your 5 most important ECs, and how long you’ve been dedicated to them. the list really doesn’t tell us much, except that you’ve got some leadership, which is positive.

you know, I would probably take the international DECA thing over national merit. national merit just means you did well on your PSAT, while DECA shows a strong non-academic side, and one that universities appreciate.

Light Airen, I’m Indian and live in New York…which probably makes it worse lol.

And zephyravatar, I’m just kidding lol. I just really am not sure if I should apply early. I want to but I’d rather apply somewhere where I’d have a better shot.

you should only apply ED somewhere where you are sure you would want to go if accepted (usually your top choice). if you’re looking to apply EA, there’s no real benefit (other than getting things done early) and may be even harder than RD.

yeah, Asian doesn’t help. probably makes acceptance less likely. but your self-deprecating “horrible credentials” certainly isn’t true, you are in range for Columbia at the very least.

I did ICDC as well (made it to the final 20, it was pretty much all I had to show in terms of achievement)!

My SATs, class ranking, and activities are lagging way behind yours, and they took me. Don’t let that get to you, you meet all the necessary bench marks. Just focus on your essay. Talk about the Core.

You have a great shot, no worries!

I hate it too ;)

Peeps are jealous

apply 2 harvard u nananan

if ur applying early to fu, you have a good chance. i wouldn’t really worry about ur SAT 1 scores, but i would retake your SAT IIs and perhaps take the physics SAT II for a 750+ to balance your physics AP score

also if you are female, you have higher chances at fu.
and look into 3-2 programs other colleges have with columbia, i think if you complete pre-reqs with a good gpa ur basically in.

A freshman committed suicide in his dorm room at the beginning of the last semester. He apparently hated his life too.

Other than the emo title, everything looks pretty good.
