i hate scholarships?

so i applied for two big scholarships, among many. they were the coca cola scholars one and the artsawards scholarship. i was not awarded either.

i’m pretty disappointed. i mean, the coca cola scholarship is based on extracurricular merit, and ECs are my strongest area, and the arts scholarship was based on my voice, and I did not even get an honorable mention.

anyway, i bring this up not to elicit comments of sympathy or disdain, but rather to

a. hear about the scholarships you guys are applying to/thinking about/waiting to hear from/getting frustrated over, and
b. commiserate together.

also, if i’m not accepted to yale, that is going to be three strikes. sigh…

if we haven’t gotten anything yet from the coca-cola scholars, should we just assume that we won’t be getting anything?

I’m applying for a pretty prestigious scholarship but it’s linked with UofT. If I get it AND get into Yale, it’ll be a difficult choice.

davidrune- what is this scholarship of UofT you are talking about? can you elaborate for I can not think of a scholarship from UofT which is prestigious enough to make it difficult in choosing between UofT and yale…

National Scholarship…

Cocacola and Toyota so far…planning to find more smaller ones if I have more time. For the big ones, the forms are so stupid. They seem machine-processed (add up the total number of boxes you checked for having a nominated leadership position…blablabla). I don’t fit all the NHS, Beta Club, Mu Kappa Theta, Debate Society etc checkboxes because we have completely different clubs at our school.

All I’m hoping for is around $5000 per year max - the equivalent of the work study/loan package of the top schools. The rest the school would gobble up, anyway.

yeah, I also applied for the Coca Cola scholarship. no luck. it’s okay. :)

i applied for the coke one too. and the campbells soup one.
they each have over 100,000 applicants tho… ive got a much better chance of getting into Yale than i do of even semi-finalistizing in either of the scholarships.

cambells soup lol? Where’d you hear about that?

I almost think it’s better to apply for a lot of small local scholarships where you have a good chance of winning.

my english teacher told us about it around two months ago. of course that didnt stop me from being up at midnight on the due date to write it and then submit it on time. i have sexydesi to thank for that one too, haha.

I just got my email about being a Coca Cola semifinalist today, so I think there may still be hope. Check your email.

congrats Lindsey!

Thanks, chidimma. I was sweetly surprised. Is it significant enough to email Yale about?

I would say so. try asking Zuma. he/she knows a lot of almost everything…

How would I get ahold of him/her?

PM or email, I suppose. He/she snoops around a lot, so I’m sure she/he’ll see your post.

Back on the scholarships topic - anyone know of any good, bigger ones (3K+) that aren’t too difficult to apply to and aren’t need-based? I know, I want it all - I made an agreement with my parents that I would apply to 15K worth, and I’m trying to use FastWeb, which is fabulous, but it’s all 1K for 2-page essays, and honestly I don’t have time to write 15 2-page essays about why I’ll be a great mom. That was a long sentence.
Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas!

I say this: Enter them all! Some I admit, are dumb and fascinating and controversial at the same time. You can write about the benefits of having a real christmas tree, the benefits of not being circumsized, the list goes on… Scholarships are just like the college admissions process, tedious and confusing. Oh well.
