I hate where I am. Please help.

I am currently a freshman at the University of New Mexico. I am only here because I was offered an academic full ride for being a National Hispanic Scholar. An accomplishment that sounds a lot more awesome than it really is. Anyway, I cant stand it here and would love to go back to my home state of California, UCSB preferably. As a senior in high school, I did get accepted to UCSB and UCD and a few other state schools.

My question is, what is the process for transferring to a UC after I finish up my freshman year at UNM?

Why do you hate it?

it’s new mexico?

I would say just stick it out. You can go to a community college next year, but who knows if you’ll end up with a scholarship if you even get accepted to UCSB. A full ride academic scholarship is an amazing thing, not very many people get it, I say try to stick it out. Whats so bad about it?

Seems like a good school. Be thankful for being there. Why don’t you like it?

Adrianxc… Adrian Cervantes!!! Ahahahahahahaha, damn dude. Sorry to hear things aren’t going well.

Anyway, transferring to UCs really depends on these things:

1) Your major. If you’re majoring in something that has a ton of pre-reqs, you’re unlikely to get in. You basically need to have all the pre-reqs done, and I heard UCSB was especially dickish about pre-reqs this year (people got into UCSD but not UCSB cause of that).

2) Your GPA, for obvious reasons just keep it as high as possible.

3) Since you’re coming from another 4 year university, you’re gonna have the lowest priority. Community college has the highest priority, then followed by UCs, then other 4 years. I would suggest going to DVC or something, the only problem is since you will have completed a significant amount of coursework at another university, they will consider you a 4 year university transfer. You might wanna consider trying to start second semester at DVC, cause then you won’t have a significant amount of coursework.

Anyway, good luck. You can PM me or something if you need more advice.

Isn’t it like the first week of school? Try and give it a chance, if I could go to college for free I would definitely do it.

Ill be attending Drake in Iowa next year. Thanks for the help everyone.

Once you take even one class at any institution you cannot transfer into a UC as a freshman anymore. You also absolutely cannot transfer to a CSU or UC as a sophomore. You can only transfer as a junior and on the VERY rare occasion as a senior.
