I have a 1.8 what are my chances at Harvard?

JUST KIDDING!!

White male, 17 years old
93.8% GPA, 590 math, 520 reading, 560 writing (1100/1600)
91 out of a class of 613
Applying to be a business major

Variety of activities such as varsity swimming, volunteer work, extracurriculars, etc.

What are my chances at…???

-Syracuse
-Penn State
-Fairfield
-SUNY Geneseo
-SUNY Binghamton

Your SAT scores are way too low for Binghampton’s current standards.

Try to raise your SATs to at least 1200 (preferebly 1250ish) to be a solid contender for Binghamton- HARPUR. I think a business major is considered SOM so you would probably need at least a 1300 to be competitive there. Not sure though.

Geneseo won’t even LOOK at your app if you don’t have at least a 1200…and they usually accept kids with 1300s.

Syracuse- match…not sure about the others.

Standardized testing sucks but there is no way around it unless you are interested in a test-optional school. Try the ACT or prep for the SAT and re-take it…good luck!

Raise your SAT scores.

I’m a Geneseo alumuni, class of 1980!! When I went there, it was easy to get in and the women outnumbered the men 9:1!! So, even if it is your last pick, that stat isn’t so bad… I moved to San Diego that summer and got a teaching job three weeks later!

LOL u totally got me

Chance me, Please…

^all matches ;)

all matches?! no way is geneseo a match with those scores/class rank…

geneseo is definitely a reach. it’s the top SUNY school. i think people take the SUNY system for granted. geneseo and binghamton are really getting up there. an 1100 doesn’t cut it at geneseo - especially this year.

good luck though! you do have a shot, and i sincerely hope you get in =D

geneseo really should be a low reach…but not too high either

i was right about all the others

Okay, I got waitlisted at UConn. Apparently it is very hard to get in this year. Has anyone else been in this same situation, and if they have what do you do to increase your chances?

Woahhh no way! Geneseo is totally not a match. The average people for the class of 2012 needed to get a 1300ish/1900ish on average. And Binghamton is like 1200ish/1800ish. I would be shocked if you got into either.

And UCONN, I’m shocked that you got waitlisted.

Yeah, it was prettty lame believe me… I mean UCONNs a good school, but they aren’t amazing so it doesnt really add up… I sent them a letter saying how I really was still interested and everything so we will see what happens, but it was quite lame tell me about it

Um… I kind of meant that I am shocked that you even got waitlisted, I thought that you would be denied. I guess the adcom is slacking off a bit this year.

oh… thanks a lot… i guess… well i can put on a good show trust me. basically what i mean is i can talk myself up pretty good

no, not really.
