I have been selected for a conference, but I did not go. Can I still put it as my EC?

<p>I had been selected for a very selective conference, but I did not attend it because of time conflict. Can I still put it as my EC or award?</p>

<p>You would have to put selected, and make it clear that you did not attend, in case your resume is one of the ones that gets audited.</p>

<p>Unless you were selected for the Olympics (and didn’t go because you were injured), I can’t understand why you would want to put this on your application. There must be ECs that you actually did participate in to fill those spots on your application.</p>

<p>I mean, doesn’t your idea sort of imply it would be OK also to list the sports you didn’t play, or the fact that you weren’t in In the Heights on Broadway?</p>

<p>I think that it would be misleading to include it. ECs or honors imply you did something to earn it. I don’t see how being selected to go for a conference is an honor.</p>

<p>Aloha: Obviously she did something to get selected. If it’s a selective conference, then it would be an honor to be chosen. But she should make sure it’s clear that she didn’t attend. What gives you the impression she didn’t do anything to deserve being SELECTED for the conference? Obviously she did, because she was.</p>

<p>The intent is to help laypk and I am merely stating an opinion that that particular EC may not have any positive effect (and may have a negative effect) as viewed by Adcoms. I am sure laypk has a number of excellent ECs already.</p>
