I have one year; how do I prepare for a 2300 Above SAT Score?

Hi Everyone,

I have just entered 11th grade (AS Level) and I plan to take the SAT in October or November of 2015. How should I prepare for a 2300 above SAT Score in the next year? A detailed plan would be awesome.

What are your weak points? Start there, then we’ll give you some more detailed advice.

Good that you want a 2300 sat, but we can;t give you constructive advice if we don’t know what sections you’re good or mediocre at.

@eaglewolf: I would suggest you first take the SAT in June 2015. This will give you an idea for areas of improvement and you have all summer to work on those areas. If you wait till October or November, you will not have much time to retake prior to applications especially if you want to apply ED/EA/SCEA. Both my sons took the SAT and ACT early in their Junior year, focused on the better scored test and retook again prior to applications…

Thanks for the reply @Jarjarbinks23 and @Gumbymom. Instead of taking SAT in June 2015 if I take a practice test, would that be fine?

Btw, I feel my weakness is Vocabulary and Essay Writing. What is the most effective way for SAT Vocab and Essay Preparation?

A practice test is nowhere near doing the actual test under test conditions (more stress, nerves etc.) and to prepare for vocab you just have to know the common words that come up. Princeton Review’s word smart book 1 is pretty good for that.

You are a junior and want to take the SAT, assumedly for the first time, in fall of senior year?

You are setting yourself up for failure. You should take it this school year and see how you do. My son took it in the fall of junior year and the spring of junior year and improved 150 points.

You should consider finding out what in-person courses are in your area (Kaplan and others), and take a course if you have the money.

And you are taking the PSAT soon - you should be studying very hard for that because money is related to your PSAT score.

@blu5959 Thank You.

@rhandco Actually, I live in a remote city in Pakistan and there are no SAT courses available nearby. The only choice for me is self study.

You can take an online course. College Board has a cheap one to start with. Kaplan, Testmasters, etc.

In-person is better, and if you are near a large city, you might find a tutor at a university, perhaps a professor. But you can’t do what you can’t do.

You should look into where you could take the PSAT, if your school does not offer it. College Board can probably help you with that.

Do you have a guidance counselor? They should be able to help too.

And there are very many Pakistani threads on CC to research.
