Hi…
I started off my career as a classical pianist, I came to the State University of my state because it had a high ranking music school. I switched to a chemistry major because scientific research is what my entire family does… Basically, I am starting to get the feeling that I am at the wrong school. To make things more simple, I am considering transferring from Florida State University to University of Florida. I didn’t think things would get this bad, but honestly I am worried about the peers. PErhaps I have no delved eep enough into the science programs. I just had a serious incident happen where my doctor ordered me not to take any hard courses this semester, so I dropped Organic I and Calc 2. My parents still seem to believe that if I do some good things like join the chess club and get into the other class that things will start looking up, but I just can’t stop asking myself… am I at the right place?

I mean I just realized a month ago that I had the SAT exemption, it wasn’t anything I Cared about, I just wanted to live life. I went from wanting to be a concert pianist, to pharmacist, to pharmacologist, to GP doctor, to plastic surgeon, and now I’ve decided on scientific research, as in pursuing a phD.

I am TRULY undecided, and it seems like things will finally start to look up perhaps for me now. But I don’t really know, it seems kids are really focused on “scores” and that it seems that it sort of attracts quite a bit of jealousy to be honest. I thought it would be a great school cuz of all the hot chicks, but quickly realized how phony the social world can really be in a place like this.

I want hope, and I am willing to believe that I am annoying, arrogant, you name it whatever one would call someone who stands up for how they feel. Any advice would be great, especially social advice, because that is perhaps one of my weaknesses. But did I think that coming to a more social school would help the situation?

Ok guys lets calm down here? Don’t you understand that I have feelings myself? How desperate are you on your quest to prove other people wrong(not applying to all the posters of course)? An SAT exemption is when you have a straight CLAST of 997. 998 would include a GPA exemption… I personally found out about it last week by googling it.

But hearing these posts I realize that younger undergraduate students at a university with slightly higher SAT scores won’t do much for me at all, since all I get will be responses like “you can stand up for what’s right without being a d-bag”. Hello my friend, the whole point of “standing up” for something is that you are going against the grain, thereby everyone will assume you are a d-bag. That is what it takes my friend to actually stand up for something.

I hope someone reads this and realizes that there is someone else standing up for the same thing. I know I am not the only one, but I realize now that the location may make no difference. It’s simply the maturity level that a lot of the undergraduates have. And yes… I think I am more mature than most of my peers, no surprise there I hope.

I think Bugs Bunny was saying that he(?) is obviously intelligent due to his love of chess/classical music/SAT exemption, but he was feeling very unmotivated due to the plebes surrounding him. Now he is stuck in a mindset of “woe is I” and would like us to praise him and/or mock him so that he can ‘back up’ his ‘intelligence’ with ‘snarky’ comments about how he’s better than us.

At least, that’s how I think this is going.

Also, it cracks me up that Bugs Bunny thinks that standing up for something he believes in = being a d-bag. I stand up for a lot of things I believe in, and I’m very vocal about most of them. In real life, I don’t think I come off as a d-bag or a terrible person at all. Most people who meet me like me or at least tolerate me. [Online, however, is a different story…]

The social world is going to be phony just about anywhere you go, Holden. There will always be phonies, and your task is to figure out who’s who and find some people you get along with. This will be the same at any college, any professional school, any job.

If you picked a school because you think “hot chicks” are what make a place great, you have no business commenting on the maturity level of your peers.

Still no clue what the hell you’re talking about.
I googled it earlier, and the first thing that came up was this thread.

Either you have a very weak grasp of the english language, or you clearly don’t understand that clast is a florida thing (no longer given, by the way), and most posters on this board would have no clue what you’re talking about.
I don’t even really understand it, even after reading about it on the Florida DOE website, since I know jack about the florida education system.

Either way, I still have no clue what it means to “have the SAT exemption.” You’re terrible at describing things.

@Johnson181: Really, are you so dumb that you don’t understand it? He got a score on a thingy that may or may not be in Florida that was a really big number so he doesn’t have to take the SAT or go to college because he’s genius of the world and has already earned a 4.0 GPA through his PhD. Duh.

Not really. I do not have a 4.0 gpa and I was just trying to confirm my own belief that I should stay at the college that I currently attend. Now I know that I will definitely be staying in Florida.

The SAT exemption is the zinger with which I got everyone to read my thread. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with wanting to attend a school more because of the hot chicks. Thirdly, I was making a point that it is NOT being a d-bag to stand up for something, but that that is what other people assume. And I am using this thread as the prime example. Anybody who goes out of their way like you have, to make fun of somebody is clearly not that happy. My professors all happen to love me. And that is because I am not snobby at all, and even on this thread, people don’t get it.

Fourth, is it really that wrong of me to post my situation? I am not a ■■■■■, I am a student concerned about my peer situation. Yes, the point of the title of this thread is to get people to read it…

I actually AM chuckling because I find it funny that anybody would take this thread that seriously.

Well I appreciate all the attention you all are giving me. And I am glad that my professors at least, are caring people who understand me. And I thank the one or two posters who gave me some real advice.
