I got a B in french 1 eighth grade year (which goes on my transcript), but ever since then i’ve gotten straight A’s, is that gonna set me back for picky ivy league schools? If so how much?

It definitely won’t be one B on your transcript that is the reason you won’t get in. A piece of advice though - make sure you are doing other interesting things besides getting A’s on your transcript. Remember almost everyone applying to an Ivy League school will have the same. You need to make yourself stand out.

What will set you “back from picky Ivy League schools” is your unfamiliarity with what they are looking for. You should become acquainted with their evaluative factors. If you think only 4.0 students get admitted, you’ve got an awful lot to learn.

Colleges generally do not use grades from courses taken in eight grade or before. Also, check to see what actually goes on your transcript. Many high schools report high school level courses taken in eight grade on the transcript sent to colleges to show you took and completed the course but do not report the grade.

First of all, one B won’t matter. Second, I’m pretty sure all colleges focus on high school only, in fact, some even disregard freshman year. You are fine – and perfect scores can’t even guarantee admission.
