I received a 28 on my first ACT, a 30 the second time, and am hoping to improve my third time.
I am really only taking it to improve my math score, and to end a sibling rivalry.
Anyhow, each time for testing I have been completed confounded. for my first ACT, I had a Calc 2 Final Exam the day before or after the ACT tests.
For my second ACT, I had a Calc 3 Test the monday after the ACT, and a physics test on tuesday.
For my third ACT, I have a physics test on Friday and a Calc 3 final on Mon. I am taking the test on Saturday. Am I just unlucky, or are the test dates coordinated with my academic testing dates?
Luck not much of a factor on the ACT or other standardized exams. In-school tests concurrent with an ACT test date aren’t likely to be a factor. In-school tests measure what is taught and learned in a circumscribed period of time. In contrast, the ACT is a broad measure of high school preparation over time and multiple areas. the academic demand and preparation are different. You are not dealing with a finite capacity to learn or a tests that are so difficult that utter, debilitating exhaustion is apt to occur. At school and later at work you will face competing demands. Perhaps even being up to the challenge of the in-school tests will have, or even has had, a positive impact on your ACT performance.
The math scores you earned on the ACT are good; many students would be quite happy with them. Sibling rivalry? Please! If you earned a higher score than your sibling that would be a minor victory and seriously short-lived. You will not have bested your sib for all time; only until the next challenge arises.
Practically, taking these tests costs money. Who pays for your multiple exams; you I hope? Does your sibling even care if you do better on a section of the ACT?
Sibling Rivalry was a joke. I am paying for the test. My math scores were 25, and 27 on the ACT, but I applied to Engineering schools. That is why I wanted to bring my scores up. I am also hoping to get somewhat better scholarships based on a higher score.
The first exam was at school, the other two I have payed for. My composite is fine, my math not so much. A few scholarships ( for specific schools) I am hoping to get require a 31+ on the ACT, and that is why I am retaking.
“You are not dealing with a finite capacity to learn or a tests that are so difficult that utter, debilitating exhaustion is apt to occur” I would care to argue that about Calculus 3. In all seriousness though, I just thought it was funny that the dates always coincided so close.
