I have to go to a Mary Kay party!

Don’t ask – but I MUST go. So, does anybody have any suggestions what to buy? Is their stuff any good? What products do you like? Thanks for recommendations.

(Maybe if we ever have a contest for the most trivial post in the Cafe this one will win! )

I was in the same situation.

I bought the face cleanser and moisterizer. The product was good, and I even re-ordered it several times.

Several weeks after my initial purchase, I did get phone calls trying to recruit me to sell and/go to a “glamour” makeover. I nicely let them know that I would buy the product and that was all.

Mary Kay makes good products. I actually met Mary Kay a few times here in my home town. She was an amazing woman and truly someone to admire. She had a HUGE pink (on the outside) house, by the way. You will find something you want to buy- don’t worry.

I’ve used the “Medium Coverage Foundation” before. It broke me out, but my skin is waaaaay sensitive.

My sister had to go to a MK party a few weeks ago, and bought a mascara. It was what everyone at her old job used, and she says it’s pretty good. She also liked the lip gloss in pink diamonds, and the lipstick in apricot glaze. She said the prices were suprisingly reasonable.

I like the eyeshadow and the lipstick is great too. Actually I prefer MK lipstick to more expensive lipstick as it stays put, is not drying and is unscented.

I almost forgot. I also like the Microdermabrasian facial scrub.

I had to attend a party too but it ended up being kind of fun!

I started using MK at 13 way back when their makeup base was pancake form. It sure saved my skin all these years since the makeup was a total sunblock. I do not look my age (old).

If you have dry skin, the pink greasy nightcream was my favorite and is perfect for eyecream and lipgloss. They do have great eyeshadows, rouges and lipsticks.

Oh yeah! The pink greasy cream comes as a body moisturizer too. I put it on my feet with cotton socks and it does a good job of softening them.

Teehee, an exchange student friend’s name is Kay and people always think she didn’t understand them when they ask her name (“que” means “what” in Spanish). She always has to say, “Kay, as in MaryKay” for people to get that it’s really her name.

Like HelloKiki, I have sensitive skin and many MaryKay products, including ones that claim to be hypoallergenic, cause skin problems for me. Their lip stick products are okay for me, as were mascaras. But nothing spectacular enough to keep me coming back.

I hate parties that use friendships to sell me stuff!

Satin Hands hand lotion is fantastic. It doesn’t smell very nice, but the results are really amazing. Use some on your feet before you go to bed…you never would have thought feet could be so soft…

this post makes me smile! it reminds me of the time i “had” to go to a tupperware party. it was at a neighbor’s and i didn’t know anyone but the hostess. although i was the oldest, i somehow managed to win the prize for the person with the least amount of tupperware. it was one of those what-cha-macallits that you find in your drawer months later and have no idea what its use is!

p.s. sorry i can’t help with your dilemma–thankfully, i have never been to a mary kay party…

The few times I have tried Mary Kay, my face has broken out, so I would try a product like body or hand cream.

I used Mary Kay products for a few years until my rep moved. I have very dry skin and have been using moisturizers forever, theirs worked well for me. Most home parties are not high pressure sales. I sold Pampered Chef for 13 years and always felt that I was just trying to help people find something that they could really use, not “selling” them something that they would regret. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

I have to say I have only been to one party- and that was over 20 years ago-it was held by my boss
I might have bought some handlotion
I would check the labels carefully and not buy anything with mineral oil ( it is made from crude oil - like the oil you put into your car and it will actually take moisture out of your skin)

Lipstick, they have nice lipsticks which stay put, don’t crease, last forever.

Thanks everybody. Hopefully I’ll find something I “need.”

The last home party thing I went to was Longaberger baskets. OMG they were so expensive! I bought NOTHING. The woman giving the party actually told us that she has over 1,000 baskets at home. I almost died. I hate a lot of stuff around and rarely keep any basket that shows up here - much less 1,000 of them!

The lipsticks are great–and not as expensive as some of the other products. I do like their moisturizers, though–a little goes a long way.
