I have to Redeem Myself

Hey Guys whats up

I’m a descent student, but I slacked off in high school- I should have tried harder and done more ECs. I want to redeem myself by going to Brown for med school. Is it possible, or realistic
for me to go there from a Tier 2 school like Loyola in Chicago, UIC, or UIUC? All feedback is appreciated, this is my first time on the forums.

You have a really strange outlook, I must say. But this kind of question is better put to the general forums like ‘College Search & Selection’ where you discuss what schools will get you into Med school. If you do a search you will find many threads on that subject (the good news is that it isn’t the undergrad name that gets you in but your GPA and your MCAT.) You might also like to do some reading in the Graduate section under Med School to see what those who are applying soon are concerned with. REad there befor you ask them any basic questions.

It isn’t realistic to target any one school. Because of the high competition, you basically go wherever you get in.

Thanks brownparent. Also this has really been nagging me but what do you mean by I have a really strange outlook I am curious if you could elaborate in that / I would appreciate your perspective

Here’s how applying to medical schools works, basically:

Apply to a crapload of schools.

Get into a couple, if you’re lucky.

Go to one of the ones you get into.

You’re not at the stage where you should be thinking about specific med schools. Focus on getting into college, and work from there. It is possible and realistic for you to go to a “Tier 2” school and get into any medical school in the country.
