<p>I haven’t applied yet because I was dumb and procrastinated because there is a 99% chance that I cannot afford to go. I still want to see if I can get in though. What I’m wondering is what major I should put. I was originally going to put undecided but I think this might be a bad idea. My other consideration was history, but since it’s so late in the game I’m not sure a popular major like that is good either. I think I will have good recommendations that mention my passion for history if that matters. I know I want to be in the arts and sciences.</p>
<p>For the record, my stats briefly are:</p>
<p>2190 (880V, 730M, 660W); 3.4 UM GPA (top 10% of class); big up trend w/ all A’s junior year; TX; 9 APs & 5 dual credit classes by end of senior year (w/ three 5’s and one 4); both parents grad school alumn</p>
<p>I know my chances are slim to none, but I still want to maximize them. Any advice? I’m submitting tomorrow.</p>
<p>It’s a slight reach / reach I’d say. All I have to say is get a good GPA first semester, send that in too. Write good essays too. You’ll probably be deferred but… :S</p>

<p>Deferred basically means they don’t know enough about you to make a good decision. Basically you’re on the fence.</p>
<p>What happens is that like after your senior year first semester, or even after your senior year second semester, they request a transcript be sent and if you did well, they can choose to admit you, or not</p>
<p>Well, to be honest, it doesn’t really matter what major you declare on your app cause you can’t “declare” your major immediately anyways. So just choose something that you can write a good essay about</p>
<p>Deferral means they want to see the other apps before making a decision. Basically it means “have fun waiting till April”. Though some deferred applicants hear back as soon as February.</p>
<p>Ok, so then I’ll assume that choosing a popular major such as history won’t be a bad idea. I just wasn’t sure if they would have already filled a quota for that major or something like that. I hope my 4.0 fall gpa will give me a big boost. Thanks for the information, guys.</p>
