As I read the thread about things people don’t spend money on…I thought of this. I’ll start.
I don’t mind spending money on a nice lunch or dinner eating out. It’s a nice treat.

Travel, especially bicycle trips.
I do try to find some ways to be frugal (stay in a place with a kitchen, for example, so we don’t have to get so many meals out, or flying with points) but sometimes we just splurge.
A quality education
A nice meal
Getting my taxes done by a CPA
Travel
Regular health checks and preventive care
Those are great ones.
I’ll add comfortable shoes
And good sunglasses
Travel, dining, and the arts.
Rent - I’d rather pay more to live someplace nice
Running shoes, gym membership - I get a lot of use out of these!
Duolingo, Easy German membership - I’m so grateful they exist. I would have never gotten into language learning without them.
I suppose you could count all of those as hobbies.
My kids. Sue me.
I still like treating them to gifts, a meal out, surprises, a perk…we’re not talking buying a home or car or expensive jewelry.
Also good quality furniture, home decor (rugs, outdoor furniture, lamps) that I love, love, love.
Great thread! I share a lot of the same areas mentioned above.
I don’t mind spending money on travel, good quality shoes, organic food, support for my kids, vitamins, quality healthcare, ebooks that I can discuss with friends.
(that seems like a lot - maybe explaining while I’m finding it hard to reduce my monthly expenses, lol)
Anything that allows my family to get together and share an experience that we collectively enjoy and good bourbon.
I hate spending money on most things, but at this age if I sit or sleep on it, I’m buying better quality pieces. I spend money on my sneakers; I live in my Brooks Ghosts, and the pain relief they offer is well worth the price. I don’t mind spending money on a quality electrician; I do a lot of the small electrical work myself, but if it’s something more than switching out an outlet, I want a licensed electrician. I just sleep better at night. Anything with natural gas, I will gladly pay someone; no way I’m dealing with that. The other thing I don’t mind spending money on is our pest service; up north it wasn’t a big deal to do it myself, but in the land of palmetto bugs and recluse spiders, no way. It’s well worth the $85/quarter to keep all of the creepy crawley things around here out of my house.
Travel. Good running/walking shoes. Eating out. My kids’ education. Sporting and cultural events (games, concerts, museums etc).
I definitely echo a lot of things mentioned above; sunglasses, shoes, experiences, CPA’s etc.
I would add a quality mattress to the list as well. We bought a mattress which I thought was way too experience over a decade ago, and I have never regretted the purchase to this day.
I too have loved language learning as an adult and have been happy to spend money on it. My favorite was the Pimsleur program (you can try it out from the library first, to see if you like it.) Also Concordia Language Villages–they offer adult weeks and long weekends but also offer family weeks and weekends where any age is welcome (you don’t need to bring a family.)
As a corollary to good education for kids, living in a superior public school district.
While I cut my own grass (exercise and satisfaction of cutting good lines), I do hire someone to do the edging to get those sharp lines.
My major vice is a golf membership and good equipment. However, I can’t help beating the bushes for golf balls. It was a habit I developed when I was a young golfer and too poor to afford the good balls.
These days with an empty nest, we will splurge on nice family vacations since the kids’ vacation days are limited.
Just about the only thing I don’t mind spending money on is anything that improves our living experience in our house and cabin, and I definitely focus on quality (but I always have on our homes, no skimping on surroundings). I grit my teeth watching money go out for just about everything else.
We don’t regret anything we spent/d on our son, but I think that should go without saying.
This one 10000%
I don’t mind spending money on good quality, locally grown, organic produce.
A boba date with my friend.
Reasonably priced concert tickets (aka not Ticketmonster).
Education (my kids, grandkids) and dental care.
My kids education.
Anything for my GD
Travel
Clothes
As most people here with grown kids and years of professional career I like to travel. I don’t like to spend money on anything but traveling, spending on gifts for my kids and GD, high end sunglasses and bags are my guilty pleasure.
