A parent of a senior who just submitted the portfolio for film major this year. I will only answer to your last question about portfolio.
This year the requirements were:

  1. One page resume
  2. A selfie of 1-2min in free style
  3. A completed story of max 3 page using one each of the 3 visual and 3 audio prompts they provide
  4. Set a ‘scene’ under the theme of how you started wanting to study film
  5. Creative submission: choose only ONE from 3 options i.e. 1. Art work 2. Film 3. Writing
    These seem to be subject to change annually.
    The deadline for ED1 is 11/1 /2024, ED2 is 1/1/2025 and RD is 1/5/2025 this year. Please be careful, ED( Early Decision) is binding so if you get an admission from NYU you HAVE to enroll. Therefore you can apply with ED to only one school at a time( in contrast with EA( Early Action) which you can apply as many as you want). NYU only offers ED or RD( regular decision) and no EA, FYI.
