I just need to know if I'm dreaming too big!

<p>All throughout high school, I planned on going to art school, so I focused more on art than academics. During the beginning of this school year, I applied to a few and got in to my top choice… but now I’m re-thinking that idea and considering going into speech pathology or pharmacy if I do well enough. So next year I’ll be attending community college instead and transferring to a liberal arts college or university, and I want to know if I’m just setting myself up for disappointment. I need to have an honest opinion! </p>

<p>Now for the bad part… my GRADES.
GPA, unweighted: 3.1 (yeah, I know.)
80 out of 278 in my class</p>

<p>and even worse… my SAT scores! (retaking in June)
Math: 430
CR: 550
Writing: 570</p>

<p>Notable classes:
Honors chem
AP English Lit
AP Composition
AP Studio Art</p>

<p>EC’s:
Diversity club VP
Environmental club VP
Paint crew for musical production
Model UN
13 years girl scouts</p>

<p>Work:
I’ve been working about 25 hours a week since I was 15.</p>

<p>I also plan on working my tail off during my year at community college. I’m just going to aim for a 3.5 GPA (but I know that I can do better than that!) and will be taking Spanish, chemistry, trig, philosophy, and English during my first semester.</p>

<p>Hey, I can’t really help you, but I’d like to note that your GPA is NOT as bad as you think, but still work on bringing it up (as well as work on bringing up SATs). </p>

<p>You know, you’re GPA really isn’t that bad. Have you considered taking the ACT? Sometimes people do much better on that then on the SAT… I would consider that.</p>

<p>It’s better that you’re rethinking the idea now then later. I unfortunately rethought it later and spent my last 2.5 years at an art school. I’m now debating whether to finish my degree in something I dont think i’ll put use to or go to a community college, take classes to raise my gpa and apply to some liberal art colleges.</p>

<p>i think as long as you achieve a 3.5 or higher, you should have no problem.</p>
