I just received a 20k scholarship from the engineering department, however...

I want to switch my intended major to biology now. So what do I do?

Double major…that’s what my daughter did…engineering and biology

Or decline the scholarship and change majors.

Most college kids change their majors many times over the time they are at college. Look at the requirements for both majors and see if you can keep your intended major as engineering for that first year, taking the common courses needed for both subjects. You may well want to stay in engineering, or not.

My son changed his major to compete for a departmental award. He will change it back next year or double major. For him, it was entirely doable. It’s not as though you have to take absolutely every course in your major freshman year. Most majors are flexible about courses until junior year when students are expected to be taking more courses related to their major, having met most of the college’s general requirement and the pre rec courses. So, there are kids who are straddling two majors and/or making changes up to that point, even later.

You’ll be $20K richer if you give Engineering a whirl.

This may not be possible over the long-term for Engineering, but one of my nephews was able to keep a music scholarship provided he minored in the subject. Wait until you are safely in school this fall, and then check up on your options.
