I knew this woud happen..

My counselor had told me that she sent Everything by 31st of October.
But on wolverine, it says nothings recieved so I went to check with her again today and she tells me that she sent my TRANSCRPITS on 31st Oct but my recommendations on the 2nd of November.

So I guess I am not an early applicant anymore.
Even if ER was binding, I would have applied for it…and now I am so screwed because I know for a fact that I would not get in with my stats.
I am a international (asian) with 3.7uw 4.0 weighted GPA with a bad trend and SAT 1910 and a couple of asianish grammar mistakes in my essays. I am not even angry anymore…I am so sa dd…like really really really really really sad…

Actually I am so p.oed

Question : If I get lucky and get deffered, can I fix my essays and submit new SAT score(december) and all that ?

^
Ofcourse, they want your first semester grades or second trisemester which is for most students around end of January ( I received my deferrel letter today and thats all they asked for). So you definately have a lot of time to take another test and add essays ( not sure if they will read it). I myself was deferred, I won’t take anymore test nor go beyond writing the school letters saying “its my top choice”, but before my deferrel it was my top choice. I’m a little cautious about sending semester grades only to find out I was rejected.

Oh yeah, I think deferrels can only be given to ER applications ( might explain why I didnt get a rejection). So as a RA you will either get accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.

^ thanks…
life sucks doesn’t it?

^
( lol wow) Oh not at all, but I mean ofcourse it was horrible to get a deferrel.

First of all, I’m sorry to hear that; I’ve been hearing a lot of stories about bad counselors lately, I’m really grateful mine is awesome. Writing new essays won’t help you at all. I’m pretty sure you can still send them your 7th sem. grades even though they won’t defer you since you’re a regular applicant.

Tell me though, Did your counselor submit the recommendation online or by mail?

mail…postmarked by 2nd of November…

How much time did you give the counselor to write the rec?

Stuff like this happens a lot. You should have had a one month cushion.
No need to cry over milk that has not spilled yet.

Okay, a month or so ago, a representative from U of M came to our school. He said very clearly that this year, U of M is considering things postmarked by November 2nd to be ER. I guess it’s possible he made a mistake (he DID say November 2nd, I heard him correctly) but there’s still hope for you to be considered ER. Maybe you can call U of M and ask.

Good luck!

Thomas, I am very sorry about your situation.

My son’s assistant principal who was doing his SSR got mad at him for checking up the status. Many students have to deal with such school administrators while dealing with the pressure of applying for college.

I agree with Yosup that you should call/write/email U of M to explain your situation and see what they have to say. It might not help but it can’t hurt.

TJ:

11/1/2009 was a Sunday. The only way to get a Sunday 'Postmark" is to mail by Fed Ex/Kinkos. Does anyone has a counselor who will take the transcripts to FedEx on a Sunday?

Call the school-give them your ID and ask them to check. Or just e-mail them

I randomly sampled some of the colleges that I applied to. About 60% still had postmark by 11/1 while the other 40 had bothered to check and put 11/2.

My guess is that UM will count 11/2 postmark for ER because of the weekend thing.

^ Ohh that makes sense. I guess that’s why the U of M rep said they accept November 2nd postmark. I think you’ll be fine Thomas =]

That’s not your responsibility, so U of M will most likely not hold it against you. I would be surprised to hear that they would penalize you for something that you’re not even responsible for! If you sent your application in a day late, though, that would be another story.

I just wanted to say, TJ, that I really hope you get in.

For anyone perusing these threads in future years intending to apply: Realize that every other senior at your school will be asking for recommendations in October. If you want a really super great one, book your appointment with your counsellor the first week or so in September and have your ducks in a row early. It is courteous to consider the counsellor’s work load : )
((Not saying OP DIDN’T…just saying I notice this problem a lot on this board))
