I know, another "chances"

Very new to this site but people seem to be extremely helpful with being honest about the selectivity of schools.

Female
Living in Southern California
Attending a Public school
Ranked 200 out of 800

Un-weighted: 3.1
Weighted: 3.5

SAT score: 1700 [plan on retaking and getting a 1900]

ECs:
Three years in Marching Band, three years in Winter Guard, three years in French Club, and Vice President of Operation Smile for two years.
I plan on starting a new club on campus for my senior year as well.

I do have a few blemishes on my transcript…
My sophmore year I was out of school for three months due to some serious medical issues.
My absences left me with an F in Chemistry and an F in French II.
I retook Chem this year, and I took the Final in French II and passed so my teacher allowed me to continue into French III.

Not fantastic, but my grades have been on an upturn.
I finished out the second semester of my junior year with a 3.7 weighted.

I plan on applying for Tisch Film School through ED.

Thanks!

Well, if you are applying to Tisch Film School, the biggest factor for admission is your portfolio, so I recommend working on that over the summer if you are potentially applying early decision in the fall. I would say your grades are definitely on the lower spectrum of NYU applicants, but you still have a decent shot!

where do you march?

well NYU is definitely on the more selective side and is regarded as America’s “dream school”. With your statistics, I don’t know if you could get in, since many NYU applicants have 1900+ SAT scores and >3.5 GPA, but apply anyways. My cousin wasn’t even in the top 10% of her graduating class but got in anyways. Write a kick-a** essay and be sure to mention about your medical condition during sophomore year. colleges love to see improvement and since you did that, you do have a chance. good luck =)

stacks, not EVERYONE is your cousin. i think to be in the safe spot for NYU you should have in between a 2000 and 2100

for stern, obviously it needs to be higher.

Thanks so much everyone!
I appreciate the honest feedback.

I will take into consideration the higher SAT score.
I am working very diligently on my film that I plan on sending in so I think that that will go well.
Any other tips?
I greatly appreciate it!

Stephennn, I march Redlands East Valley color guard in the fall, and I’m on varsity winter guard.
Our band is a part of the SCSBOA region.

oh hai. i march alter ego’s world guard, and bushwackers drum corps (well i took the summer off, so i’m actually not marching this summer)

oh you’re applying to tisch? you could probably swing slightly under a 2000. good luckkkkk

Wow! That’s awesome.
Yeah, back when I was considering taking a gap year I was planning on doing Blue Devils drum corps for one season at least.

ugh, DCI would be WAY too much for me, too time consuming. haha, i’ll stick with DCA. =)
