I know I'm a long shot...

But here goes.

Female Public HS in North Dakota
Has sent 4-5 students to Princeton ever

GPA: 4.095 UW (don’t know weighted) on a 4.33 scale
School does not rank, but I’m 1st or 2nd

SATs: 2290 (770M, 760W, 770CR)
Literature: 730, Chemistry: 740, MathIIC: 800

APs: AP US Gov - 5, AP Chem - 5
I’m taking 5 APs this year, have a 4.16 unweighted GPA

Activities:
–Debate: State semifinalists last year, #4 speaker; State champions this year, #3 speaker, captain both years
–Field hockey: Varsity junior/senior year, captain senior year, made all-state team as well metro first team and twin state team. 2 x state champions
–Lacrosse: Varsity sophomore-senior year, state finalists sophomore year, state champs junior year…also ran indoor track up until junior year in the winter
–Model UN: won best delegate at Harvard MUN in committee last year, was trip organizer/delegation leader this year.
–Instrument: 9 years experience, 6 years in orchestra, top orchestra in North Dakota, made a large regional orchestra in junior year.
–Between sophomore and junior year, during summer, attended Junior Statesmen Summer School at Yale
–Class rep senior year (minor, whatever)
–Peer leader in my high school, junior-senior year

Recommendations: pretty darn good, I read my guidance counselor’s, he emphasized how I had exhausted the course offerings and highlighted things past teachers had said about me.

Essays: Wrote about experience at Yale

There was a pretty unifying theme to my app, that being my love of politics, govt, and current affairs and this was reflected in my essay, extracurriculars, recommendation letters, etc.

So what do you think? Princeton is far and away my top choice.

Your objective stats look good, but I must ask: why did you write about Yale for your Princeton application?

i thought you were talkinga bout yale model UN, but apparently you went to the harvard one… so same question as lobgent.
the rest looks pretty good. north dakota helps. : ) your school has a pretty good record for princeton, mine has had no princeton admits ever.

i bet you get in. youre one of the best ive ever seen, even on college confidential. of course, your yale essay does seem a bit weird, and your GPA seems a bit low, but if youre first in your class then its not a problem. your extracirriculars are excellent, especially with numerous awards. and tongchen is right- north dakota helps. I think it will be enough to get you in. i really feel pretty confident about you. PM me in april and tell me how it goes, please (i want to go to princeton/yale too!).

wow, thanks for the support everyone! its so intimidating on here sometimes…

about my essay, i wrote about the program, which just happened to be at yale (its also offered at some other top notch universities)…in it, i mention that it took place at yale, but my essay focuses more on how it was the first time i was ever in a truly diverse situation (not much diversity here in north dakota) as well as the self-confidence i gained through being part of such an amazing, talented group of students. that was the point in my life when science and sports didn’t take a backseat, but became a second priority to govt, politics, intl relations, current events, etc.

i probably should have been more clear : )

also, i’m not sure how the 4.0 scale works, but at my school an a+ is a 4.33, an a is 4.0, an a- is a 3.66~. so unweighted, i have about 2/3 a’s and 1/3 a+'s

I think you’re one of the more likely to get in I’ve seen in a while. Between your good stats across the board, good ECs, and so forth, you’re from North Dakota, which is big-time underrepresented at Princeton.

You have a good chance.

i’m starting to get reallyyy nervous…i’ve tried not to get my hopes up but i honestly cant picture myself anywhere else! argh college admissions…
