<p>So I’m a rising Junior and an African-American girl and I really have my heart set on goin to UPenn… but I’ve just decided this in the past few weeks now. Unfortunately I can’t go back and involve myself in ec’s and imporove my grades so I’m afraid that it’s too late and I won’t have any chances of getting in. Currently my GPA is 3.52 due to a horrible Freshmen year ( 3.14 1st semester and 3.28 second semester [I was still wayyy upset from moving and trying to get over it]) but my sophomore year was much better ( 3.83 both semesters ). So far I havnt been involved in any ec’s excpet marching band! This summer I’m volunteering at the Hospital and hopefully join a few clubs this year that interest me. My schedule for this upcoming year is:</p>

AP Calc AB
AP Us History
Ap Chemistry
Ap Music theory
Spanish
Symphonic Band (highest band class)</p>

<p>I want to apply for CAS and major in biochemistry and continue on to Med school to become a pharmacologist to do medical research.</p>

<p>I know that this probably isnt enough for an Ivy league even though I wish it was…so any suggestions on good non ivy league schools… preferably in the northeastern area…</p>

<p>Penn has a lot of competitive, highly qualified applicants. I don’t mean to say that to deter you, but just be aware that your stats (GPA) are sub par compared to others who are applying.
That said, if you obtain amazing teacher recs and a counselor rec that ideally explains why your GPA was a bit low your freshman year, get great SATs, and enhance your extracurricular resume, you should get back on track. Also, try applying ED.
Do you qualify for anything such as minority, first-generation college student, or low income? That often helps at colleges because they like to recruit a diverse student body.

<p>As long as you do well on the SAT, you will have a very good chance at getting into Penn (especially if you apply early). If you aim for 3.9-4 this coming year, that chance will go up even more (gives you an upward trend).</p>
