I know it's a longshot, just how much of one (CHANCE BACK)

Let me begin by stating that I attend an EXTRAORDINARILY difficult private school in Cleveland Ohio. I’m currently a senior, white, not applying for financial aid, and awesome. Now, for my stats…

Academics: Freshman year, no AP’s GPA - 3.4 (I had sheeite going on, don’t judge me)

Sophomore year: AP statistics, and I took the AP Euro history and passed, despite the fact OUR only prep was the standard Civ classes in Frosh/Soph years. However, I switched languages from Chinese to Latin II ( I know this is gonna look really bad, but I hated Chinese with the burning passion of a thousand suns). GPA - 3.9

Junior year: AP Economics, AP English, AP Am Civ, AP Physics. GPA - 4.0

1st Semester Senior Year: AP English Satire, AP English Lit, AP Government, AP Art History, AP BC Calculus, AP Chem. GPA - 4.0

Athletics - Cross Country, Lax (manager, cause I suck). No specific achievement, I’m a pretty weak athlete, and by pretty I mean VERRRRRRRRRRRRY

Extra-Curriculars:

Mock Trial (10-12) Leadership Postion

Special Philanthropic Organization (10-12) Leadership Position

Environmental Action Society (11-12) FOUNDER!

Student Newspaper (10-12) Leadership Position

Jazz Band Combo Group (10-12) No Leadership Position available

Debate (9-12). Made state tournament all four years, national tournament 3. Junior Year I placed 11th best in the nation. This year, we’re on track to outdo last year, and we won states. Leadership position

There are a couple more but that’s probably the best

Tests:

ACT’s - 31

SAT’s - 2300

Special Honor’s/Service

Went to Honduras in years 10 and 11 to help build an orphange.

Local volunteering at a children’s hospital for disadvantage youth’s. Around 60 hours.

Volunteering and tutoring at inner-city schools. 40-60 hours.

A teensy bit of political volunteering, but nothing HUGE.

Won awards for best Jazz Musician, best English Student, and best Debater respectively. Additionally, got a couple of short-stories published in local and national literary magazines…

Again, I realize my stats aren’t great, but I think my EC’s are pretty kickass. I applied to Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, Yale, Williams, Middlebury, Swarthmore, Vassar, Wesleyan, UC Berkeley, Rice, Bard, and Bennington. I realize that, posting this on the Yale boards, this is the one I’m most worried about (also, Brown and Dartmouth). I already got into Williams, so WOOT! Princeton doesn’t look at frosh grades, which is probably my weakest point, plus I’m not even sure how much I wanna go there (probs pick Williams over it). Any feedback on my, granted, extremely LIMITED chances would be suppperdupper awesome. I will chance back, if applicable. THANKS!!!

Little bit weak on number of ec’s but if you phrased the ones you do have right, they look pretty impressive. You definiely (Imho) have a good shot at most of them, and a chance at even the most selective of the ivies. If you focussed well on your passions, it will look good, especially if your essay + recs support this…

Look hither for mine! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/877064-i-swore-i-would-not-do-but-chance-me-pls.html#post1064246228</a></p>

I don’t know why your “number of ec’s” would be weak. It seems fine and it isn’t automatically good to just have a ton of random extracurricular activities.

I’m more concerned about my weak Freshman year. I kinda adressed it, but does anyone know how much Yale looks at freshman grades, or if it’s possible to make up for such a weak year?

Princeton doesn’t even care about freshman year grades, but Yale might. You show an upward trend throughout HS. That’s good. You can effectively explain away your freshman grades if you included that info on the app. I sure hope you did.

Good shot (or as good as the rest of us). Best of luck.

Bumpitty Bumpitty Bump Bump Bumpitty Bumpitty Bump…

Also, forgot to mention, my mom went to Yale Law School. So did my great-grandfather (I’m not a blueblood ass**** though). Would that make me a legacy? If so, would that help me in any way?

^ haha, except for the part where most of the pool doesn’t have a good shot…selective admissions rates, anyone?

i think your numbers are fine (SAT 2300? wow!) and your ECs are definitely good. yale does count freshman grades from what i know, but again, the upward trend is good. and legacy helps too. in this case i think it might be enough to push you over the line  good luck!

You’re full of crap, your stats dont match what you stated in a chance for brown thread.

You from St. Iggy?

US, better academically. Also, I just found our College admissions over the past like 4 years. Bout 3 people go to Yale a year, one to Pton, one to Harvard, one to Brown, and like 3-4 to Columbia. Didn’t check the others, but that gives SOME idea of how our school does, just don’t know how significant it’ll be…

I don’t get how you can take 3 different AP English classes. Last time I checked, there were only two AP English exams…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/common-application/865252-chances-competitive-school.html</a></p>

full of ****, you change your stats for different threads.

While it may seem implausable, I have a twin brother who shares this account (we use the same computer, it’s automatically signed in). I wouldn’t ‘buy it’ either, but hey, why the hell would I come up with random stats to try and waste the time of college prospects… Calm yourself bro.

i dont feel like ‘calming myself, broski’

also neither of you were 12th in the nation in ‘debate,’ in either NFLs or TOC rankings

Shares account, shares EC’s, shares scores, shares classes.

100% legit, am I right?
